Fantasy action RPGGodfallmay not be available on Steam, suggests a post from the game’s official social media account.Godfallis thefirst game confirmed for PS5, and it will be a launch title for the console, but it will also be released on PC.
TheGodfallTwitter account recently responded to a fan’s question about the release plans for the game. It told the fan that the title will be available on PS5 and on the Epic Games Store for PC, and while the lack of any mention of Steam is not definitive confirmation thatGodfallwon’t be available on that platform, some have taken this statement to mean that the title will be an Epic Games Store exclusive. This could make sense considering thatGodfall’s publisher, Gearbox Software, recently releasedBorderlands 3as an Epic Games Store exclusive.

Unsurprisingly, some gamers aren’t happy thatGodfallmay not be available on Steam. One fan said that they wouldn’t be buying the game on PC or PS5 because the Epic Games Store has “anti-consumer tactics.” The Twitter user didn’t say what about the Epic Games Store they don’t like, but the store has been criticized before for things likenot having any game reviews. Several others also said that they wouldn’t be buying the game because it would be on the Epic Games Store.
A few other gamers asked ifGodfallwill be a timed exclusive and for additional information about when it could come to Steam. The Epic Games Store has had several exclusive games, but not all of them have been fully exclusive. Some timed exclusives, such ascontroversial Epic Games Store exclusiveMetro Exodushave been, or will be, released on Steam, and that could be what happens withGodfall, though nothing has been officially confirmed.
Being an Epic Games Store exclusive can make more money for the developers, and that could be a reason forGodfallto release in such a manner. However, it could potentially be very bad forGodfall, a multiplayer game that is likeDestiny, as such titles often need larger playerbases to keep them going. If players are threatening not to buy the game because it’s on the Epic Games Store, the PC playerbase could be much lower. Gearbox and developer Counterplay Games have likely weighed this up, but some will be holding out hope that the game will also launch on Steam.
Godfallis currently in development for PS5 and PC.
