Esports host and caster Goldenboy is the latest to join theG4reboot roster, and will now be among the ranks of other popular commentators along with thebeloved hosts Kevin Pereira and Adam Sessler.
Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez has been a popular caster for many years now, andhas even been a commentator for All Elite Wresting. The reboot of theG4network has already nabbed other popular commentators likeLeague of Legendscasters Frosk and Ovilee May, as it seems this new version of G4 is going to have a focus on esports content that the original G4 missed out on.

Yesterday, Goldenboy announced on Twitter that he will be “teaming up with some of the best minds in the business… and @Jerry_XL,” referring tocomedian Gus Johnson, who has been playing the role of G4’s CEOsince the announced relaunch of the network. The new G4 is set to launch on cable sometime later this year, though no specific date has been announced yet. G4 has been posting comedy videos on YouTube chronicling the fictional difficulties of Johnson’s CEO character trying to get the rebooted network up and running.
Goldenboy commentating for AEW isn’t the only wrestling connection for G4, as WWE superstar Xavier Woods will also be one of the main faces of the network for the relaunch. It was announced last week thatWoods will host a new video game competition series on G4where WWE wrestlers and content creators will compete across multiple video games, akin to Woods’ YouTube channel UpUpDownDown.
As for the returning talent,Game Rant interviewedAttack of the Show’s Kevin Pereira andX-Play’s Adam Sesslerin February about why the two decided to come back after the original G4’s demise and what it’s like working with the next generation of talent G4 has acquired.Attack of the ShowandX-Playare confirmed to be returning, but for now, it seems the shows' respective co-hosts, Olivia Munn and Morgan Web, will not be returning.
This new version of G4 will, hopefully, be able to make a place for itself amongst the crowded world of video games media. The original G4 ended just around the boom of esports and sites like Twitch, so it is smart to focus on amassing talent from the streaming and esports spheres. Hopefully, that combined with a generation of gamer’s nostalgia for the original G4’s shows and hosts will be enough.
