WB Games Montreal is currently hard at work on a previously unannounced project, one which many are speculating is a DC game. Indeed, while Warner Bros has a lot of IPs under its umbrella,WB Games Montreal’s highest profile games,Batman: Arkham OriginsandGotham Knights, have both been of that universe.Gotham Knightslaunched earlier this year to a middling reception that trends downward. WhileGotham Knightslaunching on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X at30 FPS ignited controversy around it and the Xbox Series S, its story, characters, and lack of interesting villains and boss fights drug it down even further. Still, these are all lessons the developer can carry into its next game.RELATED:Gotham Knights Releases New UpdateAs pointed out by Twitter user James Sigfield, WB Games Montreal senior producer Bryan Theberge recently updated his Linkedin profile. He has worked at WB Games Montreal for six years, serving as a senior producer onGotham Knightsfor five years and 11 months of that. His update includes 1 month of serving as a senior producer on an unannounced project. Now, many are assuming this is a brand-new game in its earliest stages, and while that’s certainly a possibility, there are other factors to consider here.

The main reason fans seem to think it is a brand-new DC game calls back to comments by the new CEO of DC Studios' James Gunn (and his co-CEO Peter Safran). The two are restructuring the future of the DCU, withJames Gunn suggesting there would be official DCU gamesas well, arguably akin to how Respawn’sStar Wars: Jedigames are considered canon. The leading theory is that WB Games Montreal is working on one of the first new, canon DCU games. Of course, that could be the case, but for it to be a brand-new game would involve an incredibly wild turnaround time and/or a bare concept at that.

However, while Bryan Theberge is changing projects, there’s no real indication that this is a new project. Back in 2018, a WB Games Montreal lead game designer stated that there weretwo DC video game projectsin the works at the studio; a couple of years later, one of those was confirmed to beGotham Knights. Nothing about the second has been heard of since.

It could be that project was put on the back burner or canceled, allowing this to be something new, or it could be this project is the very same as that one. It was nothing more than rumor and hearsay at the time, but some then believed this was aSupermangame, although fans should wait for any official confirmation from WB Games Montreal before delving into full-blown tinfoil hat territory.

Gotham Knightsis available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
