Catching rare fish inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsis always a satisfying feeling, whether it is to finally fill the Critterpedia entry orsell them for tons of easy bells. The Blue Marlin falls under that category of rare fish but getting one to spawn may seem a bit confusing.

First off, a Blue Marlin can spawn only by the dock area on anyAnimal Crossingplayer’s island. The dock is marked on the player’s map as a long stretch of brown that will always be on the beach and it, unfortunately, can’t be moved elsewhere. The player should also stock up on a lot of Manilla Clams in order to craft fish bait.

Fish bait is incredibly useful in this scenario because not too many fish will automatically spawn by the dock. Usually, players can just run around to scare off any fish that do not have the proper shadow size but this is hard to do if fish rarely spawn there. This is why having bait would be best, in order to force fish to spawn and scare them off until a proper shadow spawns.

Once a Blue Marlin is captured, there are tons of things that can be done with it aside from its entry into the Critterpedia. The Blue Marlin can be given to Blathers in the museum as a cool entry in the aquarium or it can be sold in the Nook’s Cranny for 10,000 bells. Alternatively, players can justwait for C.J. to come aroundin order to sell the Blue Marlin for even more bells.

It is very important that players checkwhat fish are leaving for the monthwhen trying to catch a Blue Marlin as it will not be available all the time. This will save the player the struggle of casting their rod hundreds of times and coming up short when attempting to catch the Blue Marlin.

While players have the opportunity, they should definitely try to catch a Blue Marlin before it goes away. It will return quite frequently throughout the year but it would be best to get it out the way while it is here (Animal Crossing: New Horizonsbug and fish change each month) to nab some extra bells or even give enough to C.J. to make a cool statue.

Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
