Quests inElden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLCcontinue the tradition of the base game, remaining as confusing as ever. With no markers and no quest log to help players keep track of what’s going on, there is very little recourse but to look up a guide.

Igon is an NPC that players will encounter fairly early on in their playthrough south of Castle Ensis. A weak echo of his past self, he is no longer the great Drake Warrior he used to be, having been brought low by the Dragon, Bayle the Dread. His quest involves helping him exact vengeance upon this enemy.

Updated July 27, 2025, by Hamza Haq: Igon’s quest is perhaps one of the best examples of what a great voice actor can do for a character. The sheer depth of rage players get to hear from Igon as he lets loose his Greatbow at his lifelong enemy is nothing short of breathtaking, elevating the experience from a simple quest to something else entirely.

Igon’s Questline (Step-by-Step) in Shadow of the Erdtree

Igon’s quest can be completed by following the following steps in order.

Make sure to pick theSouthern Shore Map Fragmentto see where you need to go on the map.

Igon’s First Location in SotE

Find the Pillar Path Waypoint by taking the road southeast of Castle Ensis. When visiting this place for the first time, players will hear a moaning cry at the Site of Grace. Look southwest to see Igon lying prone on the road. Rest at the Site of Grace and keep talking to him repeatedly until he mentions Bayle the Dread.

Dragon’s Pit Location in SotE

Take the path southeast, marked by the headless stone dragon statues, until you’re invaded by Ancient Dragon-Man. Defeat him and continue onward to the Dragon’s Pit (the entrance is a small cave with a fire lit outside).

Clear the dungeon and defeat the Ancient Dragon-Man once more to reach the Dragon’s Pit Terminus Site of Grace, unlocking the path to the Jagged Peak.

Consider using theDragon Hunter’s Great Katana(obtained by beating Ancient Dragon-Man) for the fights ahead, as this weapon deals extra damage to dragon-type enemies like Bayle, Drake, and Senessax.

How to Get to Jagged Peak in SotE (Igon’s Second Location)

Head northeast, avoiding the fight with the dragon in the basin until you reach the Foot of the Jagged Peak Site of Grace past the wooden bridge. Just to the southeast, you’ll enter a valley where two Jagged Peak Drakes are fighting each other.

After defeating both, you’ll hear a laughing cry nearby. This is Igon, and he can be found just past the arena at the entrance to thepath leading up the Jagged Peak. Talk to him, and he will beg you to summon him against Bayle the Dread, handing you Igon’s Furled Finger.

Proceed eastward past Igon’s location and use the spiritsprings to jump up with Torrent. Enter the cavern mouth after the second jump and avoid the boulders to move forward. There is aScadutree Fragmentjust underneath where the boulders fall.

Past this room, you’ll find the Ancient Dragon Senessax. This is an optional fight that is not required to complete Igon’s quest. You can move past him and head up the tunnel with the dragon corpses to reach the Jagged Peak Mountainside Site of Grace.

Follow the rocky path with more dead dragons heading westward until you come across another spiritspring. Continue on the thin path northwest until you come to a rock jutting out over an area you can jump down to.

If you jump down from the cliffhang and turn right, you’ll come across a ghostly chair with an NPC, but only if you have the Domain of Dragon Painting (obtainable in the Shadow Keep) in your inventory. The ghost will drop aRock Heart, an alternative way to transform into a Dragon.

To get to Bayle, jump over to the path south of the cliffhang and hug the left side of the mountainside. Follow the path up, and you’ll be able to reach the Jagged Peak Summit Site of Grace. Just ahead is the boss fight against Bayle the Dread.

Remember to pick up theAncient Dragon Smithing Stonebefore the last spiritspring.

Enter the boss arena and use the golden summon sign just to the right of the entrance to summon Igon to help with the boss fight. Defeat Bayle alongside Igon, and he’ll finally be able to satisfy his thirst for vengeance.

Bayle’s big weakness is frost, but he is also vulnerable to bleed. TheDragon Hunter’s Great Katanadoes bonus damage to him, making it another option for players who don’t rely on status effects. Gear-wise, armor sets with the highest Fire resistance like theFire Prelate Setare excellent options. And theFlamedrake Talisman +3is a must-have to negate a lot of the damage output from the dragonfire.

Summoning Igon during this fight is a must for completing Igon’s questline. His summon sign can be found to the left of the entrance to the boss arena.

InPhase 1, Bayle likes to get in close range and has no ranged options. Avoid locking on to him as the camera has a tendency to zoom around and disorient when shifts positions quickly. Aim for body blows when he gets close. Avoiding his attacks in the first phase is relatively easy as all of his moves are very telegraphed.

InPhase 2, Bayle will start using flying a lot more and use a wider repertoire fo fire attacks to try and flatten players. The key here is to remain in motion and jump when he does the arena wide AoE ground pound.
