A new character is joiningThe Boys. While it remains to be seen if he’ll be a hero or a villain (or as close to a hero as you may get on the show), Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been cast in season 4 of the Amazon Prime Video show.
The Boysrecently began officially filming season 4 of the hit superhero satire. The show finished its third season back in July with an explosive finale that saw the series settle into a new status quo, one which saw Annie January shed her superhero identity of ‘Starlight’ and join the Boys as a full-time member, while the leader of the Boys, Butcher, discovered he was dying following his extensive use of temporary compound V, andHomelander discovers that crowds would still line upto cheer for him even as he was revealed as a killer in the middle of a protest.

It had previously been announced that the show was adding two new supes, and bumping Cameron Corvetti up to series regular. Now, casting for season 4 continues with Morgan being cast in a mysterious role that the production has decided to keep secret for now. The casting of Morgan represents aSupernaturalreunion of sorts. The creator ofSupernatural, Eric Kripke, is also the showrunner forThe Boys.Morgan, meanwhile, portrayed Winchester patriarch John Winchester. Previously,Supernaturalstar Jensen Ackles joined the show as the villainous Soldier Boy. Perhaps the father-and-son duo will reunite on-screen inThe Boys, given thatAckles' Soldier Boy will probably be back.
Morgan’s a prolific actor, and his history with Kripke indicates that the role is of a decent size. While it’s possible, of course, that the role is a small one, it’s likely that the production would not choose to keep it secret if it wasn’t something that would give readers of the original comic a hint as to the size of Morgan’s involvement. Kripke’s previous work with Morgan has likely already illustrated Morgan’s abilities as an actor toThe Boysshowrunner.
Given thatThe Boysseason 4 is set to be a jam-packed season, and that the show seems to be careening towards Butcher and Homelander’s final confrontation, Morgan will probably have a pivotal part to play in the future of the show. WithThe Boys: Diabolicalhaving recently released, and an upcoming college-set spin-off coming sometime soon, maybe Morgan will even be seen in other franchise productions.
The Boysseasons 1-3 are now available on Amazon Prime Video.
