Summary

TheMarvel’s Spider-Man 2version of Coney Island will have an interesting feature for players looking for a more immersive experience: interactive rides. Likemany otherSpider-Mangamesbefore them, the previous two Insomniac-developed superhero titles gave players an open-world version of New York City to run, jump, and web-swing through as either Peter Parker or Miles Morales.

Spider-Man 2is building upon the open-world structure ofMarvel’s Spider-ManandSpider-Man: Miles Moralesin a big way, featuring new locations like Queens, Brooklyn, and Coney Island. These newly added areas will bring a different feel toSpider-Man 2thanks to their smaller settings and lower rooftops that make great use of the game’snew Web Wings gliding mechanic. However, there weren’t many activities to be found in the previousSpider-Mangames outside of navigating toward the next story objective or side quest, so players weren’t expecting a lot of interactivity inSpider-Man 2’s open world.

Insomniac Project Director Jeannette Lee confirmed an interesting new detail aboutMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s version of the famous Coney Island entertainment area in a recent interview with German outlet Golem. According to Lee, it will feature fully functional attractions for players to enjoy outside of web-swinging and crime-fighting as part of Insomniac’s efforts to provide a more interactive open-world experience. While Lee didn’t give any specific examples of what players should expect, the real Coney Island is known for its beaches, boardwalk, and theme park rides.

During the interview, Jeannette Lee added that bringingConey Island to life inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2was as much of an escape for the developers as she hopes it will be for players, as it was built during the COVID-19 lockdowns that left Insomniac’s development staff stuck in their homes. She stated that the team behindSpider-Man 2wishes to not only add more locations for players to explore but also give them more exciting and diverse experiences within the world that Insomniac has crafted.

There are still many questions to be answered aboutSpider-Man 2’s more interactive take on Coney Island, namely what attractions players can ride there and if they will do so as the costumed Spider-heroes or Peter Parker and Miles Morales in their civilian attires. In any case,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2aims to give players an immersive collection of side activities that could be a nice break between battles against Venom and Kraven the Hunter.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2releases on October 20, exclusively for PS5.
