Summary
Marvel Comics is filled with storylines that resonate with fans years after publication. Whether it’smajor events like Civil Waror smaller stories that focus on only a handful of heroes, the company has thrived off of narrative arcs that do something bold and exciting. One such storyline is Planet Hulk, where the titular jade giant is sent to an alien planet and becomes a gladiator. This comic has been adapted in multiple forms over the years, most notably in animation, and the popular card gameMarvel Snaphas joined the ranks of those giving Planet Hulk its time in the spotlight so many years after publication.
Marvel Snap’s January season is all about Planet Hulk, offering new cards, variants, and profile customizations that center around the popular comic. Not only is this a great form of representation of the story, but it’s vindication after years spent alienated by Marvel’s films. Hulk’s relegation to just one of an ensemble of heroes in select films is a sore spot since he rarely gets time to shine on his own. WhileMarvel Snap’s Planet Hulk season isn’t a perfect solution to this, it shows far more love for the source material than the MCU ever managed.

The MCU’s Planet Hulk Was A Shadow Of Its Source Material
To say that the MCU didn’t make any effort to adapt Planet Hulk wouldn’t be accurate, but the accuracy of its adaptation is what many fans take issue with. Aspects of the Planet Hulk storyline weren’t adapted in a Hulk movie, but a Thor movie. ThoughThor: Ragnarokis regarded as one of the best MCU films, its adaptation of Planet Hulk is a loose one at best. It’s devoid of many essential characters, and makes the circumstances of Hulk’s arrival on Sakaar more of an accident by his own hand, instead of the misguided actions of Marvel’s Illuminati.
To be fair, Universal owned the distribution rights to Hulk and that’s why a solo Hulk movie in the MCU hasn’t been explored in the last decade.
How Marvel Snap’s Planet Hulk Season Delivers On Fan Wishes
Marvel Snaphas focused on numerous comic storylines since launch, and the love it’s shown to Planet Hulk is clear. Not only does the newest season add variants of Hulk from the comic, but it also introduces multiple essential characters from Planet Hulk as new cards.Marvel Snap’s Caiera cardis perhaps one of the biggest additions for Hulk fans, as the warrior becomes the Hulk’s wife and mother to Skaar. It’s this attention to detail that many Hulk fans have been asking the MCU for, and while it may just be a few cards, it nonetheless gives love to one of the most influential Hulk stories of the last 20 years.
