Summit1g is one of the world’s most popular Twitch streamers, at one pointovertaking Ninja in Twitch subscriptions by playingSea of Thieves. Now Summit1g has experienced yet another major streaming accomplishment, managing to beat theMax Payne 3speedrun world record by six seconds while live on stream.
Summit1g has been attemptingMax Payne 3speedruns where he doesn’t use glitches, can get any percent completion in the game, and can skip cut-scenes. After his latest run throughMax Payne 3, Summit1g didn’t think that he had actually beaten the world record until his Twitch chat clued him in. The previousMax Payne 3speedrun world record was 1:30:58, but Summit1g managed to complete the game in a speedy 1:30:52.

It remains to be seen how longSummit1g’sMax Payne 3speedrun world record will last. It’s possible that the previous title holder will take another shot at it, or maybe someone else will throw their hat in the ring. Regardless, the attempts should bring some more attention toMax Payne 3itself, which is nice since the game’s online services are actually being shut down in the relatively near future.
Rockstar Games has announced that it is shutting downMax Payne 3’s online services come September 16. This means thatMax Payne 3’s online multiplayer modewill no longer be accessible, and neither will its associated Rockstar Games Social Club features. This shouldn’t have a big impact on theMax Payne 3speedrunning community, but it’s still a disappointment for anyone that still likes to play the game online.
Max Payne 3isn’t the only Rockstar Games title losing its online support on September 16. BesidesMax Payne 3’s online getting shut down,L.A. Noire’s online services are also getting the boot. Meanwhile,Grand Theft Auto Onlineon PS3 and Xbox 360 is getting shut down on December 16, with players losing the ability to purchase microtransactions in the legacy versions of the game starting September 15.
Rockstar Games is apparently making these moves so that it can focus its attention on its newer games. Later this year, Rockstar Games will be releasingnext-gen versions ofGrand Theft Auto OnlineandGrand Theft Auto 5, and between that and ongoing support for games likeRed Dead Online, it must have its hands full. Unfortunately, the company has not announced any plans to bring its other games, likeMax Payne 3, for instance, to new consoles, so fans will have to keep playing them on older platforms for now.
Max Payne 3is out now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
