Michael Bay has discussed why he prefers being a fan or viewer of the work that both DC andMarveldo. The Hollywood director has worked on a number of blockbuster films, including the recently releasedAmbulance.
Marvelis currently dominating the box office with all of its film releases. Their movies cause a stir on social media, shake up the public, and always make pivotal trailblazing changes to the comic book scene when it comes to their films, as they manage to make the more casual fans aware of the lesser-known heroessuch as theGuardians of the Galaxy.

During an interview with ComicBook, Bay spoke his thoughts about the subject. “It’s not that I’m not interested in Marvel,” Bay said. “As Ridley Scott says, the most complicated thing for a director and the most fun thing for a director is to build the world. I’m not the guy to go into Lucas’Star Warsand doStar WarsFive. That’s not me. I’m not the one to come into Iron Man Seven. I’m not the one to do Batman 10. I want to do my own thing.” The director explained that the creative control aspect is what makes the director want to do films, not being a part of something that’s already going. Bay even went as far as to say, “I would love to do a superhero thing…but I want to do it on my own terms and create my own world.”
The best possible opportunity for the director is to possibly work on something DC-related with an unused hero. DC is establishing a universe that doesn’t require a connection. It seems like the “Snyderverse” films are not in the same continuity as otherprojects such asThe Batman,Jokeror evenSuper-Pets. Perhaps Bay can work on a solo hero or villain film with the creative control that Matt Reeves had onThe Batman.
There are so many characters who could use a live-action moviesuch as Green Arrow, Superboy, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg, Red Hood and Vixen, to name a few. If Bay wanted something on a grand scale or even grounded, there are a plethora of choices to pick from for both sides. Something that DC is looking to make possible is the room for isolated character studies, while Marvel is looking to create a shared and cohesive universe. Neither option is wrong because both work well for different reasons, as fans are currently in a trailblazing era when it comes to comic book movies.
Moving forward, hopefully, DC starts hiring more talent to create these stories, as it seems like this will be the reality they’re faced with. Hiring great writers and filmmakers while finding the perfect talent to team up will help propel the DC universe forward into success. Hopefully, this reality comes sooner than later.
