Minecraftis a huge game, there’s no denying that, and not just in terms of creative potential, but in its physical size as well. With procedurally generated landscapes, and an area approximately 1.5 billion square miles, it’s easilyone of the biggest video games ever in terms of map size. The enormity of this sandbox IP is such that it’s possible to build some extraordinary and complex structures, admittedly in a blocky kind of way, and one player decided to recreate something from a game that’s also considered large.
Uploading an image to theMinecraftsubreddit recently, user Branman1234 has showcased their version of one ofThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim’s most recognizable areas, the city of Solitude. Complete with the enormous cliff arch, sometimes referred to as the Great Arch, that it sits upon, as well as the docks nearby, it’s an incredibly impressive facsimile of this well-known landmark, and while there don’t appear to be any images of the inside of the city, from the distance, it looks very impressive. The builder has even said that they are working on a website which will display more details about the project.

This is also not the firstElder Scrollsaspect they’ve built in the blocky sandbox world. This is all part of an ongoing project in whichMinecraftversions of the College of Winterhold, as well as a lot of aspects fromThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, are being recreated in this way. It seems as though Branman1234 is interested in building the whole of the former’s Tamriel and the latter’s Cyrodiil using Mojang’s game. A separate subreddit dedicated to this shows just how much they’ve managed to do so far, and it’s quite staggering the amount of work that’s been put in, with this latest demonstration said to have taken two weeks.
It seems thatthe likes ofSkyrimare simply rife for aMinecraftreimagining. This game alone is simply teeming with aspects that, despite being a bit more square when recreated, can look almost as good with the right amount of care and skill. It’s also good to see these two popular releases meet, and it will certainly be fascinating to see whether Branman1234 can pull off building the whole ofThe Elder Scrolls 4and5.
As avideo game with a huge amount of longevity,Minecraft’s popularity does not seem to have let up. It’s been out for about the same amount of time asSkyrim, yet both franchises are still as popular as ever, with the former having a creative fan base that continues to impress.
