Roller Championsis a free to play game in a sport that usually is not covered by sports games. This sport, as the title suggests, is roller derby, giving players a unique experience they might not find anywhere else.

Because this title by Epic Games is such a unique experience, there are many players who have no idea what to do when first getting started. There are a few common mistakes they make along the way. Here’s what to look out for, and what not to do while playingRoller Champions.

7Not Learning How to Control the Ball

One of the first things that a player and their team should learn is how to control the ball. It is very easy for a player to forget how to properly control the ball inRoller Champions, but it is an essential part of the game.

Properly controlling the ball will ensure that the player can pretty much always keep it right where they want it, and pretty much never with the opponent. Aplayer who keeps the ball in the hands of their teamwill have the entire game under lock, as long as it does not get passed over.

6Not Launching Fast Enough

Launching themselves into the air is a good strategy for a player who wants to get a huge burst of speedand be able to catch up. As it is easy to fall behind while skating around the rink (whether it is by getting tackled, losing momentum, or any other means), it is also easy to catch back up.

A player can launch themselves off of their allies' backs easily, or simply use the rink as their launch pad. However, a player can very easily forget the right way to launch, and end up just slowing themselves down even further.

5Getting Tackled by Opponents

Whatever a player does, they need to ensure that they do not get tackled by an opponent. Getting tackled is a major setback in terms of speed, putting players at a disadvantage.

After getting tackled, not only will a player need to try and get back up and catch up to their allies, but they also need to— at the very least — launch themselves forward to get caught up. It is best not to get tackled, so avoid it at all costs.

4Jumping for Anything Except Momentum

While it can be a great help for a player to jump up and gain momentum if they have been tackled, that is pretty much the only thing that this mechanic is good for. Jumping for anything except gaining momentum is not really necessary.

When a player jumps up for any reason except to build momentum, that jump is pretty much wasted. Jumping will waste a bit of time if a player is already steadily moving at a fast pace, and can actually end up putting the player behind everyone else. If players are already in a good position, don’t risk it.

3Being Selfish with the Ball

Team work makes the dream work, especially when it comes toRoller Champions. A player could manage the ball all by themselves, but it would make the game much harder for them in the long run.

Players should remember not to be selfish with the ball. By working together with their teammates andcoordinating who gets the ball, a player will not only be able to complete the game more quickly, but more efficiently as well.

2Looping Around the Arena Without Throwing the Ball

While one of the main objectives is to lap around the arena as many times as one can, this does not mean that it is the only thing that a player should do. Throwing the ball and passing it around to other allies is incredibly important as well.

Even if a player has racked up a bunch of points by lapping the arena, these pointsare all for naughtif they have not thrown the ball at least once through the ring. A player needs to make at least one lap to open up the goal ring.

1Not Using The Arena Walls To Build Momentum

If a player cannot launch themselves off of their teammates' backs or jump to get any momentum, they may think all is lost. Thankfully, though, there is another way to build momentum: with the arena walls. It is easy for a player to forget the momentum they can build with this method, but it’s a very useful technique.

While a player laps the arena, they can roll across the walls to build up momentum. It is not that quick to build up momentum with this method, but it is better than nothing, especially if a player does not have any quicker methods available.
