MLB The Show 21is coming to both Sony and Microsoft consoles in 2021 along with aspecial edition highlighting Jackie Robinson. As an added bonus of the game being on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X, it’s also getting a feature that no other current sports title can offer.

MLB The Show 21has been a Sony exclusive for well over a decade now. However, last year there were signs and hints the exclusivity was coming to an end. Those in the sports gaming community claimed it was a matter of time before thebaseball sim came to the Xbox. Leaks in the past few days seemingly confirmed the game is going to be on multiple platforms this year. There had been some guesses itMLB The Show 21would also come to the PC and perhaps Google Stadia, but that’s not to be.

Along with the confirmation that the game is coming to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, is cross-progression and cross-play. Sony spilled those beans in its official blog post unveiling this year’s version of the popular baseball sim. A cross-play feature is something that players inThe Showcommunity thought was comingalong with an Xbox release since there were hints such a thing was in the works. The rationale behind that was that Sony said back in 2019 that it wanted to include cross-play in all of its future titles.

With the announcement thatMLB The Show 21is going to allow Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and PS5 to both play and progress on any of the four consoles, the game is doing something other sports games that are multiplatform still aren’t pulling off. Despite being on several consoles and computers,Maddendoesn’t allow Xbox players to square off against PS4, PS5, or PC opponents. Sony is standing out from the crowd by offering the ability to not only allow PS5 users to face off against PS4 players, but also Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One gamers. In addition, should someone want to purchase the game on more than one console, there will be a way to advance teams, players, and seasons on another platform.
