Farming materials to craft a new weaponthat makes it easier to farm more materials for a newer weapon is a core part ofMonster Hunter Rise’sgameplay loop,or anyMHgame for that matter, past or present. For example, one material that is used in a wide variety ofMonster Hunter Rise’sequipment is theColossal Bone. Colossal Bonecan be obtained as a reward in a variety of Low and High-Rank quests. And, the quests will be the best way for players to farm the material as only one monster even has a chance of dropping this item.

When farming Colossal Boneor any otherMonster Huntercrafting component, patience is the name of the game. It may take several hunts to get one component to drop. Thankfully, there are a few methods and routes players can use to hopefully get this done a bit quicker and go back to the actual fun part ofRise, which is, of course, hunting monsters.

Monster Hunter Rise - Looking At A Colossal Bone In The Item Box

Updated October 2nd, 2023 by Jacob Buchalter:While some may think that Monster Hunter Rise is a bit of a ‘dead game’ nowadays considering (at the time of writing this) the last Title Update was 5+ months ago, they’d be wrong. There are still thousands of players every year discovering or rediscovering this franchise for the first time using games like Monster Hunter World or Monster Hunter Rise to do so. And, whileMonster Hunter Now does seem to be the new MH game to talk aboutthese days, there are still plenty of people playing Rise that need some help with certain materials. So, with that in mind, let’s go in-depth on all the specifics of the Colossal Bone material.

Where To Get Colossal Bone

There are two ways to getColossal Bone:One, as a quest reward from specific quests. Two, very rarely (about 8 percent) as a quest reward for huntingGoss Harag. To be more specific, here are all the quests that have a chance of rewarding the Hunter withColossal Bone:

10 Percent for 2x Bone

Monster Hunter Rise - Looking At Goss Harag Gauntlets At The Smithy

Blue, Round, and Cute

Heart of a Warrior

Monster Hunter Rise - Looking At Goss Harag Low Rank Item Drops

6-Star High-Rank Event Quest

Because a lot of these are relatively quick quests or ‘easier’ quests in the grand scheme ofMonster Hunter Rise’sdifficulty, it’s actually efficient to farm Colossal Bonein a co-op environment. This way, the mission is completed faster, multiple players get something out of it, and the co-op party can even delegate one person towards farming another type of material while the other person focuses on the Colossal Bone.

Crafting Recipes Where Colossal Bone Is Used

Now, compared to some otherMonster Hunter: Risematerials, theColossal Bonesare used in quite a few Equipment blueprints. Primarily, it’s weapons, but there’s also theGoss Haragarmor set, which is by far one of thebest-looking sets for players to make Layered Armor of.

Colossal Bone Farming Tips

And lastly, let’s just go over a few simple tips for farmingColossal Bonesfor any players who plan to build quite a few of the items that require them. These are just basic things that players can do to make the whole process just a bit less painful:

Explanation

Bring Two Palicos

Bring two Palico with the Pilfer skill instead of a Palamute on any quests that have a Goss Harag.

Farm ‘The Abominable Snow-Beast’ Quest

The Abominable Snow-Beast quest is one of the quickest for farming Colossal Bones, as the target is a Goss Harag, there’s a percentage to get the item as a reward, and monsters in Village quests are much easier than their Hub quest counterparts.

Use the Event Quest ‘Heart of a Warrior’

Alternatively, the Event Quest ‘Heart of a Warrior’ can make it a bit easier as well, since this is an Arena quest where players fight a Goss Harag (and a Magnamalo). This way, they don’t need to waste time collecting Spiribirds or getting from Point A to B, and they can use Wyvern Riding to have Mangamalo deal a ton of damage to Goss Horag pretty early on.
