Mortal Shellis extremely tough. Much like theSoulsseries it takes inspiration from, the game presents a combination of tough enemies, a maze-like world design, and a cryptic narrative in a smaller package that can wear even the most experienced players down.

Thelack of announcements onElden Ringfrom FromSoftwareis taking a toll on fans withMortal Shellfilling a void for players who love the genre. Despite the difficulty, some players have already managed to complete the game, and YouTuber Esoterickk has beat the game in an incredible fashion. Esoterickk completed the game without a shell (akin to a class) and without taking any damage from bosses. Highlights of his run can be found on his YouTube channel, featuring his boss encounters.

Describing the playthrough in the video description, Esoterickk states the nearly unlimited stamina and the weapon skill build up made the game a lot easier than his first normal run.Mortal Shellis tough in its enemy encounters and boss battles, so avoiding damage is already impressive enough given some one hit kills some bosses can do. Completing the game without a shell makes this run memorable givenMortal Shellwas only released on August 18.

Mortal Shell’s reception since its announcement has earned the game a Metacritic score of 77%. The response from fans and critics alike has been so positive that publisher Playstack announced that aphysical release ofMortal Shellwill be launched early October. The physical release of the console version will come with a few extras for fans as well including an art book, a poster of the game, and a physical disc copy, much to the relief of fans with many indie games resorting to a game key within the case in the past. Unfortunately, the physical PC edition will not come with a disc, with a Epic Games Store key in its stead.

Meanwhile, fans of theSoulsseries may not have to wait long for the remake of FromSoftware’s other classic,Demon’s Souls. Developed by Bluepoint Games, recent reports indicateDemon’s Souls is aiming for the PlayStation 5 launch window. Though no specifics have been announced regarding dates of both the console and the game,Demon’s Soulsdid receive a rating in both Japan and Korea, indicating the game is launching soon. Hopefully, fans will learn more soon.
