It’s easy to dislike most villains because they are on the side of moral bad, trying to end or rule the world just to have power over people, and many other selfish reasons. Mostfans will root for the hero to winso that the world and its people are saved.

Then there are the villains that make some fans feel sympathetic to them. Some of them didn’t choose to become villains but were forced into the life of it. Others became villains after tragic losses or circumstances in their lives changed their way of thinking. It adds interesting layers to their overall character and keeps them from being simple evil villains.

When he saw the poor state that Nina and Alexander were in after Shou Tucker’s experiment on them, he killed them as a mercy.

While he didn’t target innocents during his mission, he was not afraid to injure or kill them if they got in the way of his targets. As the series went on, Scar became reluctant allies with the Elric brothers, but still considered State Alchemists his enemies.

Gentle Criminal wanted to be a hero who would be remembered forever, but sadly did not have the grades and failed the Provisional License Hero Exam four times. He was told by his counselor to give up. Gentle refused to quit and was determined to become a hero despite the odds being stacked against him. However, after a failed attempt to save a civilian, Gentle was disowned by his family and shunned by society.

This led to him becoming a criminal with the goal of becoming the most famous. He started uploading videos of his crimes on the internet in hopes of achieving this. Though he was stopped by Izuku from ruiningthe U.A. Cultural Festival,it seems like there could be hope for him and La Brava based on his interview with the interrogator.

Poor Nagato just wanted peace for his homeland and the fighting to stop so he and his friends could be safe. Along with his best friends Yahiko and Konan, the three of them wanted to bring peace to the world. They created the Akatsuki with this goal in mind and gained a lot of followers because of this. However, the leader of their village saw them as a threat and ambushed them, causing Yahiko’s death.

Realizing that the fighting would never stop and enraged by Yahiko’s death, Nagato soughtto force peaceeven if it meant slaughtering innocent people. It wasn’t until his meeting with Naruto that he realized he lost his ways and atoned by reviving the people that died during his attack on Konoha at the cost of his own life.

7Zeref Dragneel From Fairy Tail

Having lost his parents andyounger brother Natsu,it’s no surprise that Zeref went down a rather dark path. He sought to find a way to bring Natsu back to life by attending the Mildian Magic Academy but ended up being cursed after creating the R-System and Eclipse Gate. The Curse of Contradiction kept him immortal and from being around large populations of people for fear of killing them. The more he cared about people, the higher the chances of killing them because of his curse.

All Zeref wished for was his own death and to atone for all of the sins he committed. Despite his curse, he still loved his brother Natsu and his lover Mavis. For centuries he wasn’t able to live fully in peace and only found it when he and Mavis died together.

He worked hard to free his country, but was cold in battle and didn’t really care for any innocents who died. While he wishes to make the world a better place, he is selfish when it comes to making it a reality.

He wasn’t afraid to use his Geass power to gain an advantage over his opponents. It might seem like he doesn’t care for his subordinates, but he does care for them deep down.

Crona’s childhood was less than ideal. They were taught at an early age to kill and torture by Medusa, who also abused them. Crona was also used as an experiment involving blood transfusions with Black Blood, a madness-inducing liquid. Along with Medusa’s abuse, Crona was alsoa victim of Ragnorak’storturous bullying.

This left Crona mentally unstable and more inclined to suffer bouts of insanity. During these times, they will start spouting random nonsense and laugh at random times.

A demon created from the flesh of Naraku, Kagura spent most of her time being a villain to Inuyasha and the others, but fans saw what she was like behind the scenes. She hated her creator and wished to be as free and get her heart back. Kagura protected Kohaku after his memories came back and made sure Hakudoshi couldn’t take the Shikon Jewel shard that kept him alive.

She’s done plenty of villainous things such as kill Koga’s comrades, as well as fight Inuyasha and the others many times. However, they saw that in the end, shewasn’t a completely terrible personand even offered her to join them in their fight against Naraku.

It might be a little hard to feel any sympathy for Yuno because ofher sadistic tendencies,but she’s been through a lot. Her mother was very abusive towards her by locking her in a cage and timing everything she did. She would also starve Yuno and sometimes force-feed her inedible items. Her father didn’t approve of this treatment, but he did nothing to stop it. Eventually, she escaped and locked her parents. Yuno had only planned to keep them locked up until they apologized, but neither of them did and eventually died.

Because of her broken psyche, Yuno had a warped sense of love and affection. While she truly loved Yukiteru, she was obsessed with him to the point that she would stalk him. She also would kill anyone that got too close to him, whether it be friends or family.

Having grown up with nobody showing any type of kindness, Gin joined the Krieg Pirates and became one of Krieg’s most loyal men. However, whilehe respects Krieg,he also fears him and his power. Gin wanted to escape from this life, but his loyalty kept him from leaving or thinking about it. He was so loyal to Krieg that he was willing to risk his life to save him, let himself be poisoned by him, and follow orders no matter how brutal and without question.

Sanji was the first person to ever show him kindness. Because of this, Gin couldn’t kill him despite Krieg’s order. After Krieg is defeated, Gin gives his regards to Sanji and wishes the best for Luffy.

Obito’s life closely mirrors Naruto’s, but his life took a dark turn. After watching Rin die at the hands of Kakashi, Obito’s idealistic views shattered and hegave into the Curse of Hatredthat plagued the Uchiha bloodline. It made him an easy target for Madara to manipulate and corrupt with his views on the ninja world. He was no longer the caring and optimistic ninja that cared for people and his friends. He turned into a ruthless and selfish ninja that used and manipulated everyone around him for his own gain.

He even showed some sadistic tendencies by pointing out to Naruto of his failed attempts to reach Sasuke, poking fun at Deidara when he lost his arm, laughing when Sasuke stabbed Karin, and even mocking Naruto for failing to protect Neji. It wasn’t until near the end of the series that Obito went back to his heroic ways and sacrificed himself to save Naruto and Kakashi.
