Developers talked extensively aboutWarzone 2.0in a recent blog post, which gaveCall of Dutyfans some idea about what to expect fromWarzone2.0’s new DMZ game mode. Developers describe it as “an open-world, narrative-focused extraction mode.” The new mode will give Operators free rein to complete objectives and side activities and search for valuable items in the open-world environment. Of course, these objectives will not be uncontested, as players must fend off hostile players and NPCs as they complete their missions and wait for extraction.
Developers didn’t say much else aboutWarzone 2.0’s DMZ mode but promised to provide more details as the release date approaches. Still, the new mode seems like a significant change forWarzone, whose previous modes were variations on the usual Battle Royale format. It’s unclear if the player-controlled operators will be competing to fulfill the DMZ objectives or if it’s more of a team-based attacker-defender arrangement.
The inclusion of NPC and a narrative focus are also intriguing. The latter sounds a little reminiscent of the firstTitanfallgame, which featured a narrative campaign of several multiplayer matches strung together. Developers also provided a screenshot, which seems to imply thatWarzone2.0’s DMZ mode might contain light stealth elements. However, fans won’t know precisely how DMZ works until the developers release more information.
While the blog post didn’t offer a full breakdown of the DMZ mode, it did provide a lot of other information regarding the upcomingWarzone 2.0. Highlights includeWarzone 2.0’s massive new Al Mazrah map, which contains multipleModern Warfare 2maps combined into a single sprawling environment. The aforementioned AI combatants aren’t unique to DMZ either and will make an appearance at select locations across various maps.
Developers have also overhauled theWarzone’svehicles forWarzone 2.0, and they now require fuel to operate. Players will be able to fill their tanks with Gas Cans or by visiting Gas Stations scattered around the map. The latter also offer repair services. Additionally,Warzone 2.0introduces drivable boatsand an expanded roster of ground and air vehicles.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0launches on November 16 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
