Kirkman voiced his appreciation to Prime Video for letting them do anInvinciblespinoff and expressed his optimism toIGNthat they’ll get to do more. “I love that [Prime Video] gave us the latitude to do this one,” Kirkman said. “I think that it’s kind of an unusual thing to be able to just do a fun one-off episode. So, it’s something I’m very fortunate that we were able to do, and I think it adds a lot to the overall structure of the show. It’s nice to be able to have this side episode that spotlights a cool character, so I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to do more, and I’m very thankful that we got to do this one.”
The spinoff delvedinto the backstory of Atom Eve, who was one of the main characters ofInvincibleseason 1. As it turned out, she was a government experiment designed to be the ultimate superhero. She would slip through their fingers thanks to the efforts of Dr. Elias Brandyworth and her birth mother, Polly. Eve was the first successful experiment, as they tried (and failed) to use multiple children to do what Eve could without any complication. Eve learned the truth and wiped out any government worker’s memories of what they had done to her and her birth family.
Doing so gave more layers to Eve and how isolated she was from her adopted parents and peers because of how different she was. That kind of development is what fans want to see in their characters so that they can better sympathize with them. While Atom Eve was already well-liked among the heroes in the show,Invincibleseason 1 didn’t delve much into her backstory outside of her powers besides briefly showing her relationship with her adopted mom and dad. All indications are this will likely factor into the many subplots that will beexpanded upon inInvincibleseason 2.
That’s why fans want to see more and have wanted to see more ever sinceInvincibleseason 1 wrapped up nearly two and a half years ago. They want to see these characters fully fleshed out. Invincible became an instant hit, leaving fans craving more after only eight episodes. The show gave Atom Eve quite a bit of humanization with her special. Let’s see what they could do withthe likes of Omni-Man.
