Square Enix has just revealed that it is developing a new third-person shooting game calledFoamstarswith an announcement trailer during the recent PlayStation Showcase. For long-time fans ofSquare Enixwho have been waiting for a shooting game from the Japanese company, and are also players of other similar titles likeOverwatchandSplatoon, this upcoming title may be something they can look forward to.
With June fast approaching, it is not surprising for Square Enix to be focused on itslaunch plans forFinal Fantasy 16. Arguably one of its biggest releases this year, the company is already going all-out and over-the-top in marketing efforts for the release ofFinal Fantasy 16. However, given Square Enix’s current relationship with PlayStation, the gaming community was likely expecting some sort of news to be shared during the recent PlayStation Showcase. And the announcement trailer of new gameFoamstarslikely did not disappoint the fan base.

One of thereveals in the recent 2023 PlayStation Showcase, Square Enix launched the announcement trailer for its upcoming third-person shooting titleFoamstars. The video reveals several characters decked out in modern street wear which gamers will most likely be able to play as in the game. The location seems to be set in an urban location brought to life by bright city lights. Each of these characters also show off the unique weapons they wield and how they can manipulate foam to attack, defend, or traverse throughout the arena.
Square Enix has already put up some information on its website, indicating thatFoamstarswill have multiplayer shootouts like most TPS games and will have two teams fighting against each other through the use of foam. According to the site, foam can be used in multiple ways in the video game, allowing players to wield it as a weapon or tool during battle. This includes building terrain to block attacks or creating slopes to get around the area faster, similar to howink is used in Nintendo’sSplatoonvideo games.
Unfortunately, Square Enix has yet to share any exact launch dates forFoamstars, only that the game will beexclusive to PlayStation 4 and 5for now. Though many gamers have found some elements withinFoamstarsthat make it very similar toOverwatchandSplatoon, it will probably be interesting to see just how different Square Enix is making this third-person shooter title. Hopefully the company shares more information about its release to the gaming community very soon.
