Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3already has twelve incredible classes for players to choose from. Within these classes, players also have the chance to decide between three subclasses minimum, with other classes, such as Cleric, having a total of seven to select from at the start of the game. These subclasses reward the player with different features as they level up duringBaldur’s Gate 3while also allowing gamers to experiment in different ways.

Although there is already plenty of choice, some players have hoped that, eventually, other subclasses will be added to the game through DLC. While Larian Studios has said in the past that the game is unlikely to have DLC, they tend to listen to players' feedback and addmore things to the CRPG.

Updated July 03, 2025, by Megan Smith:BG3 is now out on not only PC and PlayStation but also the Xbox Series X/S. While the game already provides plenty of subclasses for players to choose from, some fans of Dungeons and Dragons were surprised to see that many of their own personal favorites were missing. While BG3 DLC plans appear to be non-existent at the moment for the CRPG title, some players are still hoping for new classes to experiment with. Those who have been able to play the PC version are likely to have already made a fine dent in playing the most available subclasses, and therefore, some new subclasses would be greatly appreciated by many.

15Oath Of Redemption Paladin

While attacking someone with non-lethal damage is possible, few classes or quests encourage this sort of play style. However, the Oath of Redemption sets Paladins on the troublesome path of only using violence as a last resort.

Including this oath inBG3may make fora great challengefor some players, forcing them to deal with each and every situation carefully through dialogue instead of attacking. Oath of Redemption Paladins believe that everyone can be redeemed, though if this isn’t possible, then they have spells available to stop a fight before it gets ugly.

14Death Domain Cleric

Follow The Forces Of Evil

Many of the other Cleric domains will have players in the mindset of helping to create and protect life, while there are plenty of powerful domains already inBaldur’s Gate 3, one that players hope will eventually be added to the title, be it through a possible DLC or mod, is the Death Domain.

These Clerics are usually quite evil, as they focus on the causes of death and killing others. This could lead to some interesting moments where players pursue an evil run with a Cleric that follows a darker deity.

13Lunar Magic Sorcerer

The Phases Of The Moon Are Powerful

The moon plays a crucial role inBG3as players are likely to hear about Selune a lot when completing Act 2. The Lunar Magic Sorcerer is an interesting option for the already powerful magic class, as players can choose a different phase of the moon to manifest, which will give them some interesting new spells to play with.

While inBG3, this may be more limited than the currentD&Dclass, and players may only be able to choose their lunar phase when leveling up or once they have reached an optimal level to allow them to switch between them freely.

12Twilight Domain Cleric

More Ways To See The Invisible

As mentioned, the Cleric class inBaldur’s Gate 3already hasplenty of subclass optionsthat players get to choose from at the start of the game. However, some players still wish that one of their favorites, known as the Twilight Domain, was included.

As the name suggests, this subclass would be perfect for a Selune Cleric as Twilight connects greatly to the idea of nighttime and, therefore, moons. Besides a role-playing point of view, Twilight Domain clerics have some incredible spells even at first level, especially Faerie Fire. At the third level, Twilight Clerics can also see invisibility, which is a thing that players can only do if they obtain the fake eye from Volo or make use of certain items.

11Chronurgy Magic Wizard

Control The Battlefield

Wizard is another class inBG3that already has a lot of subclass options for players to decide from. Since every school of magic is already selectable by a player, the subclasses that are not yet available focus on other battle mechanics. As a wizard that uses Chronurgy, a player will have more control over the battlefield.

Firstly, features like Chronal Shift allow a player to decide on a charactermaking a rerollafter they have rolled. This can include the player themselves, an ally, or an opponent. This is already unlocked at the second level and can be incredibly powerful. It only gets stronger as the player levels, as they can temporarily take an opponent out of battle or boost their own initiative, so they are likely to always go first.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Oath of Devotion Paladin

10Oath Of Conquest Paladin

Become A Warlock Without Multiclassing

Paladin is another class option that comes with more than the regular three subclasses, besides three of them being oaths. The fourth is the possibility of being an oathbreaker who has done something that goes against the order of rules they are meant to follow.

While the three oaths available can be incredibly overpowered options, the Oath of Conquest would allow a Paladin to be even more powerful in combat. Many of the Conquest Oaths features and abilities allow the player to put fear into the eyes of their opponents. This includes abilities such as Conquering Presence, which is essentially a circular AOE Fear spell, or access to a Warlock-exclusive spell like Armor of Agathys.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Wyll

9The Hexblade Warlock

A Greater Melee Warlock

While Pact of the Blade is already anincredibly powerful pactfor a player to choose, with access to the Hexblade subclass, a player is likely to have an even greater time during melee combat. An expanded list of spells available to a Hexblade Warlock means that a lot of the damage done by them is even better than the usual Eldritch Blast.

Combining this with the Hex Warrior feature also allows a Warlock to equip medium armor while also being allowed to use a shield. A Warlock can now happily stand with the other melee classes without the fear of being destroyed.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Drow As A Ranger In Character Creation

8Fey Wanderer Ranger

More Magical Rangers

It seems a little lonely that the Warlock is the only class inBaldur’s Gate 3that has any connection to the Fey while playing. If the Fey Wanderer Ranger subclass was available, this would give players even more of a chance to explore some Fey magic options.

Unlike a typical Ranger that focuses on wielding a bow, Fey Wanderer Rangers are better focused on building their magic through increasing their Wisdom than relying on shooting arrows at foes. With a feature like Dreadful Strikes, players even have a boost to the damage they are likely to do to an enemy, and they can use it for free.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Githyanki As A Sorcerer In Character Creation

7Shadow Magic Sorcerer

Darker Sorcerer Route

While Sorcerers already have three deadly options of choice inBG3, there are still plenty of incredible alternative options for many players who wish they had the chance to experiment with inBaldur’s Gate 3. Shadow Magic Sorcerer allows the player to wield darkness while also having the aid of a horrid Hound of 3 Omen. While using this creature as a distraction, they can continue striking from the shadows.

Shadow Magic misses out on two of its best features – due to the max level being level twelve – Larian could still find a way to make the Shadow Magic Sorcerer into a powerful magic caster thatlurks in the shadows.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Four Elements Monk

6Way Of Mercy Monk

Harm Or Heal With A Single Hit

InDungeons and DragonsFifth Edition, the Monk has been mostly forgotten. However,Baldur’s Gate 3has made this class enjoyable to play, which has led to many players wishing they could try some other subclasses. Healing Classes are few and far between, with one of the strongest being a Cleric; Way of Mercy Monks are essentially martial arts experts that can either harm or heal depending on the person.

Hand of Healing is a feature Monks can use that is identical to Cure Wounds. This can be used in combat, but it’s better to use it when the battle is over. Besides this, there is also Hand of Harm, which is just as effective as an unarmed strike, though it does also cost a Ki point.
