While theXboxofficial mobile app may not be as popular of a social media platform as TikTok, Instagram, or Twitter, that hasn’t stopped Microsoft from giving users an app that allows them to combine gaming and social media. Previously, the Xbox Game Pass app had notably given players the opportunity to rack upthousands of Microsoft Pointsquickly using a rewards system. Besides gaming extras, it seems that the official Xbox app is moving more towards traditional social media features.

The Xbox mobile app is currently trying out a new “Stories” feature. Like the stories in Instagram, the user can post short clips or screenshots for their friends and followers to see for a certain amount of time. Of course, forXboxapp users these stories will largely focus around gaming, and in an official blog post the gaming company stated that gamers will be able to “create, share, and view stories.” Alongside the creation of stories, priority tags can be added with “Quality of Service Tagging.”

The process of uploading a story on the Xbox app is rather similar to how it works on Instagram. First, a user must click on the + icon next to their gamertag. Then, they must select the type of media they want to share. Once selected, a caption can be selected and the story can be finally previewed before going public. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Xbox has been connected to Instagram, as in March 2022 the latter company used aHaloAugmented Reality filterfor users.

Unfortunately for manyXbox fans who want to share their achievementswith friends, the feature isn’t available just yet. The newest update to the Xbox mobile app is currently only available in Australia, but Xbox does assure fans that the feature will be coming to more regions soon. As well as the stories, another new feature being tried out is the aforementioned Quality of Service Tagging. This is said to prevent latency and lag on Xbox games by users being able to prioritize on outbound networking traffic activities such as party chat, streaming, and multiplayer.

As well as the Xbox mobile app shaping up for some new features, Xbox has other things in the works to keep fans interested, such as the new titles coming toXbox Game Pass for May 2022. There’s also the joint gaming showcase hosted by Xbox and Bethesda in June, which will hopefully give fans the reveals they would have hoped to see at the canceled E3 event this year.
