With today marking the release ofNier Replicant, a little over 11 years after the original game, fans decided to celebrate. Twitter exploded with tons of creative fan art, cosplay pictures, and appreciation posts, as fans showed their love forNier Replicant.
Despitecontroversy over one ofNier Replicant’s achievementslooming over the release, fans came out in droves to show their excitement for the game. As the original game came out 11 years ago yesterday, sprinkled among the launch celebration posts were those wishing theNierfranchise a happy birthday. But, most fans took the opportunity to share their fan art and cosplay that drew inspiration fromNier Replicant.

Although the launch celebration was forNier Replicant,fans' posts included plenty of characters from the franchise including 2B, 9S, and characters from other Square Enix games as well. Among the most popularly represented was Kaine, proving to be a favorite character for cosplayers. Amid the frenzy of posts, Zach Aguilar—who voicesyoung Nier in the game—took to Twitter to show his appreciation for the franchise, holding up the White Snow Edition of the game that includes pins, scripts, and a special soundtrack, among other goodies.
Twitter user Koyoriin elected to show their support for Square Enix by blending two separate franchises together with a fan art picture that blended Kaine fromNier Replicantwith Hilda Ware fromFinal Fantasy XIV. The two franchises recently met when2B and 9S’s hairstyles became availablein theFinal Fantasy MMO.
While there were plenty of incredible cosplay tributes, one of the most stunning examples came from Twitter user, Sayathefox, who posted a shot showing herself cosplaying as Kaine with another user, ShunsukeRyugu appearing as Nier. The expert editing combined with perfectly designed costumes lends a surreal look to the shot that almost demands a second glance to differentiate it from an in-game screenshot. In a sea of Kaine pictures, Twitter user MoonflowerWhite gave fans a look at their drawing of Emil sitting in bed with a copy ofNier Replicant. As a testament to fan creativity, user xLNMMx opted to show off their baking skills, posting a shot of cookies featuring Emil’s skeletal visage, a Lunar Tear, and Nier written in the franchise’s signature font.
No matter what way fans decided to celebrateNier Replicant, Twitter was filled with worthy tributes to the new release.
