No Man’s Skyjust released its twentieth free update called Endurance, which brings an overhaul to freighters for deep player customization and base-building. Present since the game’s release, freighters have long appealed to players whose desires are focused on space exploration and combat, foregoing planetary exploration and bases. Starting with the Foundation update, freighters inNo Man’s Skyreceived some elements of base building that was present for planets, albeit with limited options.

Freighters are often used to amass an armada of frigates that players can send out on different missions, ranging from trading and combat to basic exploration. The rewards from these missions are usually substantial, especially in later updates, allowing players to earn units and commodities early on. Farming, limited teleportation, and traditional refining were all enabled to give players rudimentary control of their portable base. With the release of Endurance, these systems have been enhanced and deepened with new rooms and parts available to unlock through Salvaged Frigate Modules. However, these technology modules are not necessarily easy to collect.

Salvaged Frigate Modules in No Man’s Sky

Similar in appearance and function to Salvaged Technology modules from Buried Technology, Salvaged Frigate Modules are used in the Upgrade Control terminal on thebridge of players' freighters. Introduced in the Beyond update, Salvaged Frigate Modules only served to purchase upgrades for freighter technology, engines with bigger warp distance capabilities, and features related to moving inventory between players' exosuits and freighters.

With the Endurance update, an array of rooms forenhanced base-building functionshave been added. Now players can use Salvaged Frigate Modules to purchase new aesthetic freighter hallways, windows, doors, exterior catwalks, and platforms for players to view their freighter while in space. Whole rooms have been added for advanced teleportation to and from the freighter, oxygenating the atmosphere, mass refining products, and extracting precious metals, among others.

How to Obtain Salvaged Frigate Modules

Players will need to put in more effort to obtain these precious technology modules thanjust unearthing Buried Technology. The most common method is to send frigates on different industrial missions, with higher difficulty levels yielding better results. This common method can be time-consuming, as frigate missions range from four-to-12 hours or more. However, players can send out several missions at once, increasing their potential return on investment.

Players also tend to summon their exocrafts to different planetary bodies, use advanced scanners for crashed freighters, and attempt to loot freighter storage units amid these towering wrecks. Furthermore, aboard the Space Anomaly, the Nexus offers various missiontypes for players to embark on alone or with a team. Salvaged Frigate Modules are known to appear as rewards for these missions, so players can scan for a coveted prize and select the job quickly.

Starting with the Desolation update, players can raid derelict freighters found in deep-space. These haunted remains provide players with an abundance of possible rewards, including Salvaged Frigate Modules. While the rewards are great, the dangers that lurk aboard derelicts may require advanced upgrades and weapons. If all else fails, players can destroy cargo pods and pod ships accompanying NPC freighters for a chance to receive the modules. However, this results in an immediate threat by Sentinel forces.

No Man’s Sky’sEndurance update provides rich depth to freighters throughout the game, allowingfurther base-building potentialfor players. Using Salvaged Frigate Modules unlocks these new features; however, accruing the precious tech requires more effort than traditional modules. Between frigate runs, Nexus missions crashed, and derelict freighters, players can choose which adventure to embark on to gain the necessary components to unlock the full potential of their freighter.
