No Rest For The Wickedis atough-as-nailsaction-RPG with brutal combatakin to games such asDark Souls. No Rest For The Wicked’schallenging combat system can make it difficult for beginners, and the abundance of loot it offers can be overwhelming for newcomers.

The player’s armor and weapon of choice are extremely important to their success, as well as how they choose to upgrade these items. Although resources are far from finite inNo Rest For The Wicked, thanks to the game’s fog-of-war system, players should take care when spending resources on upgrades.

It’s almost always worth purchasing enchantments for common weapon drops that have solid statistics. These enchantments, purchased from Eleanor in the market, can turn common drops into powerful weapons, and it’s not too expensive to do. However, players won’t have as much cash to spend early on, and they’re much better off farming for natural weapon drops rather than enchanting low-tier weapons.

3Low-Tier Weapons

Better Weapons Frequently Drop

Weapons inNo Rest For The Wickedfeature a tiered system, ranging all the way from tier one to tier three. These tiers have a relatively large impact on how much damage a weapon can do. Players will be most familiar with tier-one weaponsat the start of the game, butNo Rest For The Wickedallows players to upgrade these weapons all the way to tier-three with the right materials.

However, players will come across better weapons as they progress, and it’s highly likely that this will happen fairly swiftly.Players should not investin their starting weapons, or even their earliest weapon drops, at least not until they’ve tried out a few other weapons. This is especially so with common weapons, which can take a lot of investment to get to tier three. Overall, players are better off waiting for a tier-two weapon to drop, or a legendary weapon that fits their build, before they waste resources on upgrades.

2Low-Tier Armor

These Items Become Redundant Quickly

Similarly to weapons, armor pieces inNo Rest For The Wickeduse a tiered system. As a result, armor is rarely worth upgrading early on, as players are likely to get better equipment later. However, upgrading items from tier one to tier two may be worth doing if the item rolled particularly well with its random generation, specifically with rarer items. This is especially so for players who are struggling in the early game, particularly againsthard-hitting bosses such as Falstead Darak.

Players should consistently be on the lookout for tier-two loot as soon as possible, preferably stashing upgrade materials until they find a good drop. Doing this will make the later sections ofNo Rest For The Wickedsomewhat easier, as having stronger armor will grant the player increased survivability against bosses such as the Riven Twins.

1Cursed Items With Harmful Effects

Some Cursed Items Are Worth The Cost, Others Aren’t

There are a variety of item rarities inNo Rest For The Wicked, with common items being some of the weakest. However, common items are simultaneously the most versatile of the weapons in the game, as they can be molded by the player to fit a specific play style, since they don’t come with any attached effects. This can be especially helpful for players trying to construct a specific build, though generally, newcomers should look for higher rarity weapons or even a legendary drop.

Cursed items can be particularly strong, especially in the early game, but it’s important that players analyze the pros and cons of these volatile items. Cursed items can come with higher damage and useful bonuses, but each of them can have detrimental effects that make them dangerous to use, or even useless. For example, a cursed weapon that merely reduces experience gained is worth it if the weapon is powerful, whereas a weapon that permanently removes experience from the player when they die may not be worth keeping. As a result, cursed items are rarely worth upgrading, especially when the player has limited resources to spend.

What Makes An Item Worth Upgrading?

Common weapon and armor drops may not be useful early on, but when players have the cash (and resources) to spend freely on enchantments and upgrades, it’s sometimes worth enchanting them to see if they roll well with the game’s random generation. Players should be enchanting weapons and evaluating their various bonuses fairly regularly, making sure to not just look at stats but the bonuses, as well.

Rare and Cursed items work similarly, and players should simply read their positive and negative effects to figure out if that particular item fits their build. Some weapons have runes attached to them. These weapons can be powerful, but sometimes the runes are more powerful than the weapon itself. In this case, players should consider extracting the rune(s) by destroying the weapon (which is done at Eleanor’s stand in the market), rather than keeping it simply to access its runes.

As soon as players have beaten the first boss and made it to the game’s hub, the city of Sacrament, they’ll be able to speak with Maker Danos. This NPC has a variety of building projects that players can contribute to, restoring Sacrament to its former glory and simultaneously granting the player access to better merchants and handy shortcuts. Players should prioritize upgrading Fillmore’s smithy and Eleanor’s stall as soon as possible, as it will allow them to betterupgrade and enchant their items.
