Blizzard has finally introduced Twitch drops toWorld of Warcraft, and the rewards have been pretty strong so far. While Blizzard could have created Twitch exclusive cosmetics, it chose to offer many coveted cosmetics instead. It went back into the expansive catalog of retiredWorld of Warcraftitems such as mounts, and offered some of the most sought-after gear for those who are willing to watchWarcraftstreamers for a couple of hours. There is no large barrier to claim these, and it has helped open up the game’s rich history to the masses.

So far, Blizzard has offered various retired store cosmetics and some trading card game collectibles through Twitch. Players have been able to claim the Dragon Kite pet, the Feldrake mount, the Perpetual Purple Firework toy, the Cenarion Hatchling pet,and the Swift Windsteed mount as Twitch dropsjust by watching their favoriteWorld of Warcraftstreamer. Prime Gaming members have also been able to grab three retired cosmetic helms and those that were willing to gift Twitch subs, could earn the Ichabod Harvest Golem pet. There has been many old cosmetics offered through Twitch so far, but there are many more mounts that are just waiting to join the Twitch offerings.

The Cindermane Charger and Emerald Hippogryph

The Emerald Hippogryph was also a Recruit-A-Friend reward that is no longer obtainable. It was offered to any player whose recruited friend paid for three months of game time. It was a very majestic and colorful hippogryph, and mount collectors have been calling for its return for a while now.It was introduced inMists of Pandaria, but has sadly been lost to time. There is no news on what Blizzard plans to do with all of these retired Recruit-A-Friend rewards, but hopefully they can crop up in some fashion through services like Twitch.

The Primal Flamesaber

The Primal Flamesaber is a retired promotional mount that was given to players in 2017. Anyone who wanted to get their hands on this mount had toplay fifteen matches ofHeroes of the Stormwith a friend usingWarcraftheroes. It was only offered for six weeks, and has been unobtainable since. While there was a possibility that this fire cat-like mount would be offered again, the shuttering of support forHeroes of the Stormmakes it very unlikely. That means that only those who got it in the narrow six week window can ride it into battle, but that could be changed if Blizzard brought it back as a Twitch drop.

The Spectral Gryphon and Wind Rider

The Spectral Grpyon and Wind Rider were introducednear the end ofWorld of Warcraft:Cataclysm, and they became unobtainable at the end ofMists of Pandaria. They were given to players who used a Scroll of Resurrection to revive an inactive friend’s account. This service had players type in their friend’s email or the name and realm of their character, and then it would send that friend an email inviting them back to Azeroth. The friend could then accept the call and be granted 7 days of free game time, a level 80 boost,Cataclysm, and a free character transfer. The sender would receive a spectral mount based on the faction that they were a part of. This served as a nice way to get players back into the game, but the service has been discontinued and the mounts along with it.

There are so many other mounts and cosmetics that have been unobtainable for years now, and Twitch drops give Blizzard a great way to re-release them. The success ofWoW’s last couple Twitch dropsmost likely mean that many more are on the way, and that makes it a very exciting time forWorld of Warcraftcollectors. Many exclusive mounts lost to time could get a second wind soon.
