It’s been over three years since Nintendo first revealedBayonetta 3at The Game Awards 2017. Since then, updates onBayonetta 3have been few and far between, with fans only able to speculate based on the initial teaser trailer. Unfortunately, there is still isn’t any big news onBayonetta 3or what the highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch exclusive game will entail, but PlatinumGames' Hideki Kamiya has given fans another update on its progress.

In a recent interview with Famitsu,Hideki Kamiyaconfirmed thatBayonetta 3is still in development and that development on the game “is going very well.” Kamiya noted that fans are concerned about the game due to the lack of updates, but he reassured them by promising that “verifications of new systems have been going great.” While some have mistakenly taken this to mean thatBayonetta 3is in development for platforms other than the Nintendo Switch, it is more likely a reference to new gameplay mechanics that will be featured in the game.

Bayonetta 3has largely been shrouded in mystery since its initial teaser trailer, which showed very little. TheBayonetta 3teaser trailerfeatured a moon turning blood red, a ghostly figure of some kind, and the titular Bayonetta firing her signature pistols. Notably, she seemed to have a look more similar to how she appeared in the firstBayonettagame as opposed to the sequel. But besides those minute details, fans can only guess as to whatBayonetta 3has in store for them.

Fans can also only guess as toBayonetta 3’s release date as well. There used to be rumors pointing toBayonetta 3’s release date being sometime in 2018, and then fans expected it to launch in 2019. AfterPlatinumGames teased big announcements for 2020, fans were hoping that theBayonetta 3release date would be sometime this year. Unfortunately, 2020 is nearly over with no sign ofBayonetta 3, but if development is going as smoothly as Kamiya claims, maybe fans can expect release date information in 2021.

WhileBayonetta 3still has yet to see the light of day, Nintendo Switch owners have had the chance to revisit the franchise. Bayonetta is a playable character inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, and beyond that, thefirst twoBayonettagames have been ported to the Switch.

WithBayonettaandBayonetta 2being mere ports on the Switch, though, there still hasn’t been a game in the series that properly takes advantage of the console’s unique capabilities.Bayonetta 3on Switch could do some cool things, and it will definitely be interesting to see what PlatinumGames comes up with whenever the long-awaited game hits store shelves.
