A contentious debate in thePokemoncommunity over the past few months has been the graphics ofPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl. In today’s Nintendo Switch OLED reveal trailer, fans got another glimpse of thePokemonDiamondandPearlremakes in action, showing off what appear to be improved graphics.

With everyPokemonremake, especially with the 3D iterations, comes conversations of the new games' graphics and their preservation of the original’s art style.Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlwere revealed last February during a “Pokemon Presents” broadcast, and were immediately met with fan criticism over the graphics. Most recently, after breaking along-runningPokemonE3 record, a series of screenshots were released that showcased some of the remakes' improved visuals. However, not all fans are pleased with the progress.

During the Nintendo Switch OLED reveal trailer this morning,Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlmade a brief appearance, and Twitter user @BPBludgeon took notice of the games' improved graphics. They only appear in a brief segment of the trailer, but it was enough time for Bludgeon to observe changes in the graphics since the games' last showing. In the clip, intercut with a man playing the game on an OLED Switch, aPokemontrainer encounters a wild Buizel before successfully capturing it, showing off the battle start and Pokeball throwing animations. When compared to last month’sseries ofBrilliant DiamondandShining Pearlscreenshots, it seems like the remakes are advancing in the right direction visually.

It is unlikely that any radical improvements have been made to the game’s graphics since that reveal, but it is still worthwhile to compare them. The most noticeable change is a lack of saturation in general across the character models and the environment; the game still appears colorful, but the intensity of those colors has been significantly reduced. There also seems to be a change in the games' lighting, as the Buizel’s shadow extends outward to its left, as opposed to the original showing where thePokemon’s shadow rigidly sits under its model. They are definitely stepping up fromthe originalDiamondandPearl, but just how much of an improvement they are since their last showing is questionable.

Hopefully, the gameplay seen here is genuine because it does seem to be an improvement on the game’s visuals. Either way,the debate overBrilliant DiamondandShining Pearlwill undoubtedly continue, as the games' releases grow closer and closer.

Pokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlwill be released for Nintendo Switch on November 19.
