Reddit user 5centipetersecond opted for the latter “Y” form with their art, which they shared on the officialPokemonsubreddit with an image of their work, a watercolor painting of the Pokemon shooting flames from its mouth. Many praised the artist’s work, with some stating that they found Charizard Y to be underrated and that they were happy to see it getting more representation in fan art and from the community overall.

Others chimed in to wonder if they planned on doing a similar piece for Charizard X to complete the duo, but the artist made no mention of any plans to do so. The creator does have other similar work on their profile, however, such as paintings based ongames likeMonster Hunterand other RPG titles they are seemingly a fan of.
The new looks for Charizard across bothPokemon XandYare undoubtedly distinct from his original design, however, his “X” form takes greater leaps from the original look with an all-black color scheme, horns on its arms and wings, and fire coming from its mouth. Meanwhile, the “Y” form is more of a souped-up take on the original look, which retains the same color scheme and takes fewer liberties from the original design.
Despite the larger popularity of Charizard X, the Y version has managed to stay relevant,having appeared as its own raid boss inPokemon GO, where it became one of the game’s most powerful fire-type Pokemon. Charizard has been a fan-favorite since its original debut back inPokemon RedandBluein 1996, and his two separate forms and continuous fan art only prove that the iconic fire-breathing dragon’s legacy continues to thrive.
