ThePokemonfan community is by far one of the most creative fandoms in all of pop culture, regularly creating an array of different types of artworks featuring their favorite characters. While its common to see plenty of fan art feature fan-favorites like Pikachu, Charizard, or Bulbasaur, one Pokemon is somewhat surprisingly racking up quite a number of fan-made creations: Mimikyu.

A dual-type Ghost/Fairy Pokemon first introduced in Generation 7, Mimikyu is a rather interesting Pokemon that, as its name suggests, mimics Pikachu by wearing a semi-convincing cloth resembling the mascot. While its true appearance and origin remain a mystery, JapanesePokemonfans have come up with adisturbing theory explaining Mimikyu’s true nature.

Posted onto aPokemonsubreddit, a user by morbidly called u/ShankYourself showcases their impressive horror-themed Mimikyu fan art. The image shows Mimikyu in a corner, illuminated by a flashlight on the floor while holding a large kitchen knife. Shocked eyes can be seen in the reflection of the blade, indicating this Mimikyu is not messing around. Mimikyu’s name is repeatedly written on the walls in blood, along with the words “Sabrina wuz here,” likely a reference to the original Saffron City Gym Leader.

The pair of unused Poke Balls on the ground could mean that the current trainer is about to have a lot more trouble, or perhaps even a prior trainer having met their fate at the hands of the creepy Pokemon. Either way, the artwork greatly succeeds in its horror theme, creating quite the ominous scene with Mimikyu. The image also features a Gengar doodle in the other corner, withGengar recently receiving its own horror-themed fan arton the same Reddit page.

If the fan-made art wasn’t scary enough, images of what Mimikyu would look like in real lifecertainly are. OnePokemonfan created a series of realistic images using an AI generator of what it would look like if Mimikyu were captured on a trail camera. The results are arguably more terrifying than the image above, showing creepily distorted versions of the Pokemon with realistic textures, creating something that is purely nightmare fuel.

While a lot of Mimikyu fan art tends to lean towards scary themes given the nature of the Pokemon, some fans do the opposite. Such is the case with one fan, whocreated an impressive Mimikyu rugwith a brighter color scheme truer to the Pikachu it tries to emulate, giving it a much more benign appearance than most of its other fan-made iterations. Whatever the medium, it should be interesting to see what form the unusualPokemoncharacter will take next.
