In a new tweet, Niantic announced the next Team GO Rocket Takeover event. Titled Adventure Week: Taken Over, the event will run from August 8 at midnight to August 12, at 11:59 p.m. local time. The event will bringShadow Lugia as part of 5-star Shadow raidsand Shadow Cresselia as part of Giovanni’s Special Research. Players will also be able to get Shadow variants of Timburr, Tirtouga, and Archen by battling Team GO Rocket Grunts. Additionally, other raids will also feature the Shadow variants of Mareep, Wooper, Cranidos, Shieldon, Nuzleaf, Manectric, and Vibrava. While the event seems stacked, Cresselia being featured hasn’t impressed the community, as fans were almost certain that the event would mark the debut of Shadow Rayquaza.

Pokemon GO Team GO Rocket Takeover Event Schedule

The Shared Skies season was heavily focused around Rayquaza, with players also getting a chance to snagMega Rayquaza inPokemon GOas part of Elite Raids. Players thought that this would be the perfect opportunity for Niantic to add the shadow variant as well, but the developers opted for Cresselia instead. While Cresselia has plenty of fans, Rayquaza has long been a favorite of longtime Pokemon fans and newcomers alike. However, that’s not the only thing fans are unhappy about.

ThePokemon GOShared Skies trailer featured Apex Shadow Lugia, but Niantic has announced that only the regular Shadow variant of the Pokemon will be featured in the event. If one pays close attention to the appearance of Shadow Lugia in the trailer, the creature has white lightning around its body, which is a trait only present in the Apex variant. Apex Shadow Lugia is the most powerful variant of the Pokemon, as it features the exclusive move Aeroblast+ which deals increased damage. Some fans are still hoping that Niantic possibly missed out on this detail and will add the Apex variant sometime soon.
