Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s launch was not a seamless experience for Game Freak due to the performance issues plaguing the game for some players and the multitude of leaks that revealed the entire Paldean Pokedex beforehand. The Teal Mask DLC was also leaked before release, and now more rumors and alleged leaks are piling up for the second expansion, The Indigo Disk, which is set to have players exploreBlueberry Academy in Unovawhile meeting new and old characters and Pokemon alike. While recent leaks were about Indigo Disk’s Tera Forms and past ones concerned its new Pokemon, none have been about one key aspect of Gen 8’s Crown Tundra, possibly indicating a less compelling endgame.

Pokemon Sword and Shieldhad their fair share of issues when they first came out, issues that the Isle of Armor DLC didn’t really fix. The Crown Tundra was largely a success because it provided players with a meaningful endgame grind through a new game mode that made Legendaries and Ultra Beasts catchable with ease. This is something that would be sorely needed inPokemon Scarlet and Violetdue to their overreliance on Tera Raids for exclusive critters, but it’s also something that hasn’t been officially disclosed or even leaked.

Why Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk Needs Gen 8’s Dynamax Adventures

Currently, even as ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Teal Mask DLC, there are no ways to obtain Legendary Pokemon, Ultra Beasts, or even most Hisuian forms outside ofPokemon Hometransfers. The main problem withPokemongames relying onHomeis that it doesn’t generate critters, but only allows players to take them from a given game to another as a bank of sorts. Of course, what follows is that players who haven’t obtained Legendaries, Ultra Beasts, or all other sorts of rare or exclusive creatures in past games are unable to get them now.

Those who did usePokemon Sword and Shield’s Dynamax Adventuresto catch these pocket monsters can easily transfer them to Gen 9 games viaPokemon Home, and the same thing applies to games likePokemon Legends: Arceusor Gen 4 remakes. Considering thatPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s endgame consists of farming Tera Raids, the Ace Tournament, or The Teal Mask’s Ogre Oustin' mini-game, something similar to Dynamax Adventures where players can get past critters would be not only loved, but needed. The Indigo Disk DLC is adding all starters to the game, with players being able to catch them all in Blueberry Academy’s biomes, but this is nowhere near an actual endgame grind.

CurrentPokemon Scarlet and VioletVGC tournamentsare allowing all critters supported by the game, which includes the likes of the Forces of Nature from Gen 5 or Legendary Pokemon like Cresselia and Heatran. All of these Pokemon are unavailable in Gen 9, though, and they haven’t even been featured as 7-star Tera Raid bosses for players to obtain, but rather are just transferable from past games. Having a reliable way to get rare and exclusive Pokemon in Gen 9 could kill two birds with one stone - provide players with a fun game mode and a chance to catch Pokemon they might not have.

BecausePokemon Scarlet and VioletDLC leaksnever mentioned anything about past Legendary Pokemon, Ultra Beasts, and the likes, nor did they mention endgame grinds like Gen 8’s Dynamax Adventures, the second Gen 9 expansion could be disappointing for long-time fans. It’s hard to deny the impact Dynamax Adventures had on Gen 8 titles, especially given how fun and diverse the gameplay loop was, and Gen 9 shouldn’t only focus on Tera Raids if it wants to keep players engaged for at least a couple more years.
