Croagunk was largely forgotten about by the timePokemon Black & Whitedropped, but the Pokemon has enjoyed a big resurgence of late. Croagunk and Toxicroak have been featured consistently in recentPokemongames, includingPokemon Scarlet & Violet.
The poison toad Pokemon was a relatively prominent one in thePokemon Diamond & Pearlera. It was a go-to Pokemon for Brock in the anime and was part of a recurring comedic bit where it reeled in Brock’s over-the-top romantic advances. It faded off for a time, butPokemon Scarlet & Violetsee it return for the fourth major game in a row.

After being transfer-only in gen-seven, Croagunk returned as a version-exclusive inPokemon Sword & Shield, fighter inPokken Tournament, and received some extra love as a Sinnoh staple inPokemon Legends: ArceusandPokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Here’s how to catch, evolve, and use Croagunk inPokemon Scarlet & Violet.
Where to Catch Croagunk in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Croagunk can be found and captured in South Province Area Five and West Province Area Two. South Province Area Five is an early-game area stretching from the eastern entrance to Mesagoza down to Paldea’s southeastern coast. West Province Area Two covers much of the path between Medali and Porto Marinada.
How to Evolve Croagunk
Croagunk evolves into Toxicroak at level 37. Players don’t have to jump through any other hoops to get it to evolve, with nowalking requirement like Rabscaor specific moves it needs to know like Tsareena.
Though players can evolve a Croagunk themselves, Toxicroak can be found in the wild as well. It appears on the islands and shores around Casseroya Lake.

Is Toxicroak a Strong Pokemon?
Toxiocroak is decent as a fighting-type Pokemon for playing through thePokemon Scarlet & Violetstory but is sub-optimal anywhere else. Its usefulness in the story is also hampered somewhat by its reliance on TMs andegg moves to expand its move pool. It can still do work with its solid Speed stat and access to Close Combat and Gunk Shot, but it requires a lot of effort for middling strength.
It doesn’t work well in ranked battles due to its sheer number of weaknesses. It’s doubly weak to psychic moves and is also weak to ground moves, which is arguably worse due to the popularity of Earthquake as a physical move. All this is made worse by its low defenses and mediocre Speed stat.

Those low defenses also preclude it from being used in Tera Raid battles. It has an average HP base stat and below-average Defense and Sp. Defense stats, which see it crumble in any high-level Tera Raid battles.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violetare available now on Nintendo Switch.
