While fans of theSplinter Cellseries wait for Ubisoft to finally make a new game, they have, at the very least, something to look forward to fromRainbow Six Siege, as it’s been confirmed this week thatSam Fisher is being added toSiege. But this is news that can be welcomed by fans of more than just Tom Clancy games, because, in a purely technical sense, this opens the door for a near-endless variety of hypothetical crossovers.

With Fisher coming toSiege, it cements theSplinter Cellseries’ place in not just the fictional universe ofRainbow SixbutGhost Reconas well, since he had a cameo there too. Now while it might not seem much of a stretch to imagine all of Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy games sharing a universe, that line of thinking ends up connecting the Clancy-verse to some surprising other universes, as Reddit user ChiUnit4evr pointed out this week.

This rabbit hole begins with the fact thatGhost Recon WildlandsfeaturedPredator-themed DLC. Already this appearance from the sci-fi film franchise connectsRainbow Sixto a few universes, most notably that of theAlienfranchise, whose xenomorphs have also cameoed in theMortal Kombatseries alongside Freddie Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Robocop, just to name a few.

But what really blows the franchise connections wide open is thecomic book crossoverBatman Vs. Predator, which extendsGhost Recon’sPredatorcameo all the way to DC and its vast library of crossovers. The number of connections this results in is frankly far too many to describe here, but in short, the web ChiUnit4evr has mapped out reaches across nearly all of popular media, connecting to giants like Disney, Marvel,Star Wars, Nintendo, and Lego, and covering dozens of franchises as varied asDragon Ball,Frozen,Halo, andThe Three Stooges(yes, really).

It’s actually kind of insane, not just because of the sheer number and range of franchises, but because ChiUnit4evr was able to map it all out like that. It’s an impressive feat of cataloging, despite the fact that all it amounts to ultimately is just some fun trivia. As cool as it is to seeRainbow Six Siegeconnected to so many fictional universes, the likelihood of Ubisoft wanting to crossover with even a fraction of them in any official way is pretty much nil.

Still, it’s fun to imagine all of the possibilities this news brings. There’s just something amusing in knowing that a gritty tactical shooter likeSiegetechnicallyexists in the same universe asMy Little Pony.

Rainbow Six Siegeis available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with plans to also launch on next-gen consoles.
