AlthoughRed Dead Redemption 2didn’t see the return of many of the wacky supporting cast found in its 2010 predecessor,Red Dead Onlinehasn’t been as strict with who can show up in its less canonical version of the game’s world. Bonnie, one of the main cast of the original game and a major player in John Marston’s quest to killBill Williamson, was resurrected as a quest giver in the online mode, while Irish’s stuttering associate Shaky shows up in the game too.

It appears another ofRed Dead Redemption’sbiggest characters was slated to make his appearance inRed Dead Onlineas well, with Twitter user VideoTech discovering the returning name while datamining the game’s files. That character is none other than Seth Briars, the treasure-obsessed graverobber that teams up with John Marston and accompanies him on several missions during the game’s first act.

The character himself was allegedly added to the files all the way back in the firstRed Dead Onlineupdate in 2018, with VideoTech speculating that he was likely meant to be quest giver or will be added as one in the near future. Not only does the character mentioned in the files, but he also has a character model, with VideoTech revealing that it’s listed as “CS_MP_Seth.” The model seems to account for the amount of time betweenRed Dead Redemption 2and the firstRed Dead Redemption, with Seth looking significantly younger in comparison to his original look. There’s no denying that it’s him, however, with the character’s long, scraggly blonde hair, thin mustache, and tall, slender build all returning.

Alongside the model is supposedly 47 lines of dialogue, which all but confirm that Seth likely had a scrapped quest in the game at some point in time. Uploading a video of him testing the lines, VideoTech notes that it seems a placeholder was put in place of the character’s dialogue, with the speech actually playing the Moonshiner Cook’s voice rather than Seth’s. It seems likely thatRockstarwas waiting to design the quest before recording the character’s dialogue.

Regardless, many are now theorizing that Seth could make his way to the game around Halloween, with the character’s creepy quests in the original game definitely having the potential to make a fun, horror-centricRed DeadOnlineadd-on. If that’s so, it’ll be fantastic to see one of the franchise’s most iconic figures return for a brand new quest years after he first debuted.

Red Dead Onlineis out now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
