The latest update for theResident Evil 4remake makes it a lot easier for players to unlock the Handcannon by making it possible to do so through the Mercenaries mode. Prior to the update, unlocking the Handcannon in theResident Evil 4remake was one of the game’s greatest challenges.
Typically, to unlock the Handcannon in theResident Evil 4remake, players must beat the game on Professional difficulty without their upgraded weapons or specialbonus weapons like the Chicago Sweeper. Getting the Handcannon is necessary for anyone hoping to unlock the Gun Fanatic achievement/trophy in theResident Evil 4remake, so it’s no surprise that it’s one of the rarest achievements/trophies in the game.

However, that could change as of the latest update for theResident Evil 4remake. It’s been discovered that achieving an S-rank on the three Mercenaries mode levels will unlock the Handcannon for purchase. After unlocking the Handcannon, players will have to purchase it using 1,000 CP, but this is still a significantly easier way to get the gun than trying to unlock it in the story mode. While some may findThe Mercenaries modechallenging, getting S rank in the three stages is still significantly less time-consuming than playing through the whole game on Professional difficulty with no bonus weapons.
Those that already went through the trouble ofunlocking the Handcannon in theResident Evil 4remakethe normal way may be annoyed that there’s now an easier method to unlocking the gun, but others will no doubt appreciate the update. The latestResident Evil 4remake update isn’t without its problems, though, as some players have been having issues since downloading the patch.
Xbox players in particular have been reporting that theResident Evil 4remake graphics are worsesince downloading the latest update. It’s unclear exactly why that is, but hopefully the issue can be ironed out in a future patch. Capcom has yet to detail all that’s coming in the nextResident Evil 4remake update, but more information on that should come to light in the weeks ahead.
Now that Capcom has added The Mercenaries mode to theResident Evil 4remake, the next step is bringing back Assignment Ada and Separate Ways. Both modes are still missing from the game at the time of this writing, but there is some evidence to suggest that they could be added down the line. It remains to be seen if they will be added as part of a free update or as paid DLC, though, so fans will have to stay tuned for more information. In the meantime, they can tackle The Mercenaries mode and hopefully unlock the Handcannon forLeon’s arsenal of weapons.
Resident Evil 4is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
