Robloxis one of the most popular games in the world. Hundreds of millions of people playRobloxevery single month. Suffice to say,Robloxmust have astonishingly strong server infrastructure in order to support that many players. Yet evenRoblox’s servers appear to have their breaking point. The hugely popular online game has been taken offline for unplanned maintenance most of Friday. What makes the situation all the more absurd is that someRobloxplayers are blaming fast-food chain Chipotle for the issues.

The reason why some frustratedRobloxplayers are blaming Chipotle for today’s server outage is quite funny. This past week, Chipotle announced that it had partnered withRobloxto give away $1 million in free burritos through the game. A specialChipotle Halloween “Boorito” stagecould be visited in-game, allowing 30,000 costumed guests to earn a free burrito. The Boorito event was scheduled to last through October 31, but it was expected that the 30,000 free burritos would go quickly.

With the Boorito event in mind, onceRoblox’s servers went down some players were quick to blame the Chipotle event for the server outage. In their minds, it must have been the surge of hungry Chipotle fans rushing to get their free burrito that crashed the servers.Robloxfanshave blamed these players rushing online and their insatiable appetite for Chipotle burritos for the current issues, as ridiculous as that may be.

A rush of players could absolutely crash a game’s servers, but a game as big asRobloxwould be more than prepared for any such surge. In fact,Roblox’s developers have even issued a statement clarifying the matter, saying that the outage isn’t related to any “specific experiences or partnerships on the platform.” A short statement isn’t enough to stopRoblox’s meme-loving communityfrom having their fun, however.

As for what really caused theRobloxoutage, it still isn’t clear. Despite over 9 hours of outage, all thatRoblox’s developershave said is that there are ongoing issues and that they’re being worked on. The team has apologized but has no timeframe for whenRoblox’s servers will return.

While it may be silly thatRobloxservers are down and the community is blaming Chipotle, the severity of the situation also can’t be understated. This is one of themost successful and popular games in the worldthat’s had its servers taken down. It’s possible that it was done by a DDOS attack or another hostile effort. That such a large game has been taken down for 10 hours and more is much bigger news than the Chipotle memes may imply.

Robloxis available now on PC, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
