Another wayModern Warfare 3will differ from otherCall of Dutygames is that it won’t have a brand-new multiplayer experience. On the contrary,Modern Warfare 3is carrying over the general style, weapons, and unlocks fromModern Warfare 2and giving players remastered maps from the 2009Modern Warfare 2game to battle it out on. This risky strategy seems to be a result of theCall of Dutydevelopment struggles from a few years ago that threw the release pattern off track and forced Treyarch to rush outBlack Ops Cold Warin lieu of the Sledgehammer-developedCoDthat was supposed to hit the market in 2020, though that’s just speculation at this time.

Regardless, it seems likeModern Warfare 3could be the start of a new trend. According to leaker el_bobberto on Twitter, the 2025Call of Dutygame will fill the same role for Treyarch’s newCall of Dutygame that’s dropping in 2024. But instead of usingmaps from the 2009Modern Warfare 2, it will apparently use maps fromBlack Ops 2instead. Obviously, fans should take this information with a massive grain of salt, and the leaker themselves even admitted that this is “very likely to change within the next 2 years.”
Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Maps List
IfModern Warfare 3is a success, it would make sense for Activision to try the strategy again for future games. And with theCall of Dutyseries a staggering 20 games deepwith the release ofModern Warfare 3later this year, there will be no shortage of classicCoDtitles to choose from.
Assuming the rumor is true, some fans may be wondering why the originalBlack Opsis seemingly be passed over forBlack Ops 2. There were manyfan favorite multiplayer maps in the firstBlack Opsgame, so it does seem odd to go directly toBlack Ops 2. Then again,Black Ops 2had a map called Nuketown 2025, so that could be one reason why. Unfortunately, it will be at least two years before fans have their answers about the 2025Call of Dutygame, as Activision doesn’t reveal them until the spring or summer of the year of their release.
