Summary
Epic Games is reportedly planning to remove Zero Build Mode fromFortnite. The popular battle royale is known for giving players the option to build structures to protect themselves from enemies. TheZero Build Moderemoved this ability, so players could focus solely on gunplay.
Fortniteadded Zero Build Mode over a year ago after many avid players requested for it. Initially, it was believed that the mode would be up for a limited time only, but Epic Games made it permanent. WhileFortnite’s build feature did make it stand out from otherbattle royale games, some players believed that Zero Build Mode made it feel more competitive without worrying about gathering build materials and constructing forts in the middle of gunfights.
WithFortniteChapter 5on the horizon, it’s been rumored that Zero Build Mode might be disabled. Prominent leaker HYPEX said on Twitter thatFortnitecan’t make the mode run smoothly on most of the Chapter 1 map, so it might get scrapped in the next update.
AlthoughFortnitehasn’t confirmed the news yet, many players in HYPEX’s replies expressed their disappointment that Zero Build Mode might be going away soon. Some said that removing this mode could turn away casual players who got intoFortnitebecause of the straightforward gunplay. Meanwhile, there were also a few people who seemed to like the idea ofFortnitegoing back to its original gameplay, with one noting that it should be a “builds only” battle royale. Apart from the alleged removal of Zero Build Mode, HYPEX also reported that tactical sprinting and climbing could be disabled in Chapter 4 Season 5, and will return inChapter 5.
The good news is thatFortniteChapter 5 will reportedly come out in late 2023, so players would still have a month or two to enjoy Zero Build Mode if it will indeed be disabled. However, there’s also some truth in what players have said about casuals possibly droppingFortnitealtogether because the game’s build mechanic can be a steep learning curve for them. This is especially true if the players are used to other battle royale titles likeApex LegendsandPUBG, where they just focus on gathering resources, like weapons, armor and health kits, and shooting their opponents.
For now, players have been enjoying the return ofFortnite’s original map. With the game now running in Unreal Engine 5, they can now experience more details in the map while trying to get the highly coveted Victory Royale.
Fortniteis available for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
