With it being 12 years now since the last time theNBChitScrubswas on the air, it was only a matter of time before there would be rumblings about a potential reboot. It appears that both show creator Bill Lawrence and the original cast of the show are down for a revival.

Rebooting popular shows is all the rage now, and it appearsNBC’sScrubswould be the latest to receive such treatment if the creators had their way. Lawrence is currently busy working onthe Apple TV Plus hitTed Lasso, but he said that he was up for it because of the rapport everyone has with each other as well as the devoted fanbase.

At the most recent ATX TV Festival, the cast of the show, which included Lawrence, Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, and Neil Flynn, talked about the possibility of bringing the show back. Lawrence and Faison, who played Dr. Chris Turk, said that they want to bring the show back, although in what form could be anyone’s guess. “Here’s the deal: I think we all want a reboot and want to work together again, but it couldn’t be a full season. Maybe like a movie or something we could shoot in a few months,” Faison told the fans at the panel. “With everything Bill is doing now, he’s never going to be free again. If he finds the time, we’ll do it." Lawrence added, “We’re gonna do it because people still care about it, and we enjoy spending time with each other."

If and when theScrubsreboot comes, the question is where would the show pick up from. JD left Sacred Heart at the end of the show to be closer to his son and Dr. Kelso retired as chief of medicine just before the show ended. The end montage revealed that JD and Elliot got married and had a child of their own while also revealing that JD’s son and Turk’s daughter would get engaged in the future. They also won’t be able to bring back everyone since Sam Lloyd, who played sadsack lawyer Ted Buckland, tragically died from a brain tumor in 2020.

As long as this possible reboot only serves to continue the show’s quality - sans in the infamous ninth season - there shouldn’t be any hurt in checking up on how these characters are doing all these years later.Scrubswas originally about the tale of young doctorsfresh out of med school learning about the trials and errors of their profession while also learning about themselves in the process. Of course, they can’t do that now with how much time has passed, but it could dive into how far everyone has come in the medical profession, and how it’s changed them from who they were before.

The one thing fans will want to see more thananything in a revival ofScrubsis the show continuing to blend its comedy with its drama, which was why it was so well received back in the 2000s. The show’s comedic appeal through JD’s fantasies along with its heart-wrenchingly real moments made it one of the best sitcoms of its era. It’s whyScrubsstill has a strong fanbase today, and why many would look forward to a revival no matter what form it takes.

Scrubscan currently be streamed on Hulu and Amazon Prime.
