Taking place 16 years afterResident Evil Village,Shadows of Roseis set to follow Ethan Winters' daughter Rosemary as she searches for a way to get rid of her mysterious powers. Upon interacting with a surviving piece of the Megamycete, Rose begins seeing all the humans the Mold has come into contact with. This includes a darker version of the Duke as well asa doppelganger of Rose herself.
The DLC is supposed to only be four hours long, and will allow players to control Rose from a third-person perspective. While Capcom is enticing players with new locales, characters, and revelations, it shouldn’t forget to tie upResident Evil Village’s loose ends. The fallout of events from the main campaign should have repercussions on Rose and everybody around her after 16 years.

What Happened to Rose’s Parents?
Players would like to know what became of Ethan. While it looks like his sacrifice to destroy Miranda and the Megamycete was final, those who stuck around for the epilogue know teenage Rosemary came into contact with a stranger that looks very much like Ethan. This tease, combined withEthan’s ability to resurrect himselfusing the Mold, is what puts his fate into question. Since people played him for two games, they deserve some sense of closure.
Mia Winters' fate deserves just as much attentionseeing as she survived the events ofResident Evil Villageand is Rose’s legal guardian. Despite being Rose’s mother, Mia is nowhere to be seen inShadows of Rose’s promotional material. She was taken from Mia by Chris Redfield after her powers started manifesting, but it’s doubtful Mia would let her daughter go without a fight. At the very least, Mia should have visitation rights, which would allow the two to expound upon what happened after the main game.

What Happened to The Village and Its Inhabitants?
While it looks as though Chris Redfield and Ethan Winters were successful in destroying the Megamycete, the European village that gives the eighth mainlineResident Evilgame its title is still intact. This meansnumerous Lycans are still roaming around the countrysidecausing havoc for the locals. It would be good to know if the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA) was able to contain (or eliminate) the remaining Lycans and rescue any survivors.
It is also likely thatResident Evil Village’s most illusive character, the Duke, is still alive. Though he appears to make an appearance in trailers forShadows of Rose, it is doubtful this is the same Duke from the main campaign due to Rose’s interaction with the Megamycete. Being one of the game’s more memorable characters, the Duke’s condition is somethingShadows of Roseshould shed light on. He might even help out Rose on her quest to absolve her powers.

Chris Redfield Versus the BSAA
DuringResident Evil Village’s final moments, it is revealed that the BSAA sent bio-engineered soldiers to the European village to contain the Lycan threat. While not on par with Lycans or T-Virus zombies, these soldiers are still dangerous bio-weapons. Fighting monsters with monsters issomething that doesn’t sit well with Chris Redfield, so he sets out for the BSAA’s European headquarters to get some answers.
Chris’s relationship with the BSAA was already on thin ice. Chris taking Rosemary from Mia might have been a move to keep her away from the BSAA and other powerful organizations that seek to use her powers. He would have then trained Rose to control her powers (something she admits to in the epilogue of the main game) just in case she needed to use them. Chris is as important a person to Rose as Mia and Ethan, perhaps the only person she can trust. Chris leaving to deal with BSAA matters might be whatgives Rose an opening to escape protective custody.
There are still a lot of unknowns when it comes to the aftermath ofResident Evil Village,so hopefullyShadows of Rosewill answer the big questions on players' minds. Capcom already set the bar high with the main campaign, so the DLC will have to capitalize on that success. Scares and violence are already assured, but to be a successful expansion,Shadows of Roseneeds to seamlessly connect itself with the narrativeof the series.
Resident Evil Village: Gold Editionwill release on October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
