A fan ofThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimencountered a humorous glitch that caused Sofia to levitate and spin through the air. And while Bethesda can’t be blamed for every problem with mod-added NPCs, it’s not as if theSkyrimphysics engine has a flawless track record.

Sofia is one ofSkyrim’s most popular follower mods. Well-written and fully voiced, her humorous personality and lewd jokes make her stand out amongSkyrim’s often dreary landscape. However, her powers don’t normally include impersonating a pinwheel.

Reddit user DrunkStoleATank shared the clip on Reddit with the title “I think Sofia has been on the Skooma again.” It shows the player leavingSkyrim’s town of Whiterunvia the main gate. After loading into the open world, the player runs a few feet ahead and then turns around to reveal Sofia, clad in a set of Heavy Imperial armor, hovering face down a few inches above the ground. She then attempts to walk “forward” clipping into the terrain.

Sofia then flies forward spiraling through the air. She quickly builds up speed until she begins rapidly spinning like a pinwheel. The spinning eventually stops and Sofia’s left floating several feet in the air. Sofia doesn’t make a sound while any of this is happening, with the only noise coming from the rain and the player’s footsteps. The other NPC silently going about their business only adds to the scene’s comedic value.

It’s unclear specifically what went wrong to cause Sofia’s horizontal hovering.Floating NPCs are a relatively common glitch inSkyrimand may result from having too many NPC actors loaded into a single cell. However, this may not be the same situation, since it looks more like Sofia is oriented incorrectly rather than defying gravity. The spinning can at least be explained by Sofia bouncing off the terrain in a way that the game couldn’t account for.

Fans in theSkyrimsubreddit had a good bit of fun with this bug. “I must go now. My Rorikstead needs me,” read one comment. “Got dragon blood in em…they can fly!” said another. Others commented about similar bugs they encountered in theirSkyrimplaythroughs.

DrunkStoleATank also explained in the comments that they tried to get Sofia down by hitting her with the Unrelenting Force Shout and shooting her with a mage’s staff, neither of which were successful. They eventually managed to fix the bug by taking the carriage to Riften. They couldn’t fast-travel because they wereusingSkyrim’s Survival mode, but that also would have worked according to another commenter. That’s a helpful bit of information in case anyone else experiences a similar glitch.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
