For those who enjoy a good speedrun video, the summer period is a great time to check out all sorts of games being challenged by only the best. With the charitable eventSummer Games Done Quick 2022now taking place, there are runs being conducted all the time. Of course there are those outside the SGDQ event who are also attempting their own runs, including one user who has just set a new world record forDoom Eternal, with 100% completion on the game’s hardest difficulty.

Over on Twitch, streamer Absolutemassive set themselves the ultimate challenge, but came through unscathed, having defeated the Icon of Sin inDoom Eternalin a time of 1:45:56 and achieving the first sub 1:46:00 time. The feat established a new bar for how quickly the game can be played. Currently, the time has yet to be added to Speedrun.com, but the VOD on Twitch shows that, after more than one attempt, Absolutemassive was able to 100% the game on Ultra-Nightmare difficulty and in the “restricted” category. What this means is there were certain limitations to the run, such as not being permitted to use a rail boost or invincibility glitch and being able to go out of bounds.

In general, it’s an incredible accomplishment that shows not only the skills in the running community, but how theDoomgames overall seem primed for a good speedrun attempt. Just a couple of months ago, someone else set new standards bybeatingDoom 2016in world record time. This person was able to get to the end of the game in an eye-watering time of just 18:26. This was in the “Any%” category, however, which doesn’t really put any restrictions on how a player performs the run. That said, it’s still a remarkable achievement that shows just how fast some people can play games.

Pretty much any title out there can be challenged in such a way. There are a number ofgames that players can learn to speedrun, though it’s people like Absolutemassive who represent the most skilled at running. It’s certainly a fun challenge all round, but it takes a lot of time and dedication to pull off world record times.

As for the game itself,Doom Eternalwas well receivedat launch, springboarding off the success of the 2016 reboot and helping to keep theDoomfranchise in the modern gaming limelight. With Absolutemassive now setting a new world record in this very difficulty category, it will be interesting to see whether anyone else can come along and shave off even more time.

Doom Eternalis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
