Marvel’s Spider-Man 2will not feature Gwen Stacy, one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise.Spider-Man 2continues the story of Insomniac’sSpider-Mangames, showcasing both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as the duo attempt to protect New York City from Spider-Man’s infamous rogues gallery.
This time around, it seems Spider-Man’s main enemies will be The Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, and Venom. It’s unclear exactly how Venom will be created inSpider-Man 2, though it will be some time after Peter Parker ditches his symbiote suit. Of course, Peter and Miles have lives outside of their crime-fighting work, hanging out with their friends like Ganke Lee andPeter’s love interest Mary Jane Watson.

It will be interesting to see how Peter and MJ’s relationship evolves inSpider-Man 2, especially when Peter is under the influence of the symbiote suit. However, some fans may be curious about Peter’s other love interests potentially making an appearance in the game, like Gwen Stacy.TheGamer askedSpider-Man 2narrative director Jan Paquetteabout the possibility of Gwen Stacy appearing in the sequel. Unfortunately for Gwen Stacy fans, she will be not inSpider-Man 2. “Gwen isn’t part of the story that we’re trying to tell unfortunately,” Paquette said.
Gwen Stacyis best known for dramatically dying at the hands of the Green Goblin in what is considered to be a landmark moment in not just theSpider-Mancomics, but the superhero genre in general. More recent years have seen Stacy actually become a superhero herself, affectionately referred to as Spider-Gwen by the community. This version of the character has become especially popular in the wake of theSpider-Man: Into the Spider-VerseandAcross the Spider-Verseanimated films, which feature her prominently. Stacy is expected to have a major role inSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verseas well.
But while Stacy doesn’t appear inSpider-Man 2, that doesn’t mean she won’t be referenced in some way. TheSpider-Mangames are stuffed full of Easter eggs, so maybe fans will find some clue pointing to Gwen Stacy in the game. While there’s no guarantee that Gwen Stacy is referenced in the game at all,Spider-Manfans will want to keep an eye out while exploring the game’s open world New York City just in case.
Luckily, the wait to do just that is nearly at an end. TheSpider-Man 2release date is right around the corner, and even though Gwen Stacy is not coming along for the ride, the game should still be full of excitingSpider-Mancharacters to interact with.
