Summary
Clint may well be the most disliked townie inStardew Valleyby a considerable margin, and one player decided to give him a taste of his own medicine by stalking him while he sleeps at night. While thecast of characters inStardew Valleyare a key reason behind the game’s popularity, a few of them have obtained an infamous reputation over the years. Clint is perhaps the most obvious example, as the blacksmith of Pelican Town has few redeeming qualities, and his crippling anxiety unfortunately tends to produce creepy rather than endearing moments in his interactions with Emily.
As one ofStardew Valley’s eligible bachelorettes, players who marry or romantically pursue Emily hold an even harsher view on Clint. While someStardew Valleyfans defend Clint’s social anxiety, others are put off by his “nice guy” comments, as well as the way he acts towards Emily during her Heart Events or town festivals. A particularly controversial scene featuring Clint is when he hides in a bush in front of Emily’s house, spooked when he hears her coming, and further exacerbated by the fact that he views Emily as more of a trophy than her own person.

AStardew Valleyplayer named TechnicalPart7789 has decided to turn the tables on Clint for a change by seemingly watching him sleep at night inside his house. While the nature ofStardew Valley’s NPCs means that Clint will never learn his lesson, the dedication thatStardew Valley’s community has when it comes to hating Clint has even spun off into its own dedicated subreddit. Curiously, despite Morris arguably being more universally disliked amongStardew Valleyfans, Clint seems to attract the most hate.
Rather than rewrite his dialogue when Emily was added to the list of marriage candidates, ConcernedApe seems to have leaned into Clint’s worst tendencies in subsequentStardew Valleyupdates. For example, themovie theater inStardew Valleyallows players to invite NPCs for a movie night, and Clint’s behavior towards female farmers not only differs from male farmers, but has widely been critiqued for being creepy and untoward.
While it remains to be seen whenVersion 1.6 forStardew Valleywill come out, the new update promises to expand on the base game by a significant amount once again. A brand-new festival will make its debut in Pelican Town, and the expansion of villager dialogue promises that Clint will get a few new lines, for better or worse.
