New Atlantis inStarfieldis a city with many layers and many quests. Players can happen across one of themby descending into the Welland looking for Louisa Reyez, a MAST technician who’s having some trouble doing her job.

Players can first hear about Louisa’s problems in a random conversation in New Atlantis, at which point a new entry will appear in the activities section. Helping her out won’t make a big difference to any of theStarfieldfactions, but it’s a quick and easy way to get some credits and XP.

How to Start Tapping the Grid

Whether players are chasing down a rumor or just wandering around, they’ll find Louisa standing just across the street from the Med Bay. Unlike most folks on the street, Louisa doesn’t move, making her easy to spot. She’s waiting for her partner, Carl, but since he never shows up she decides to ask for the protagonist’s help instead.

All players have to do is hunt down a series of junction boxes scattered throughout the Well. The objective marker always points them out, but the confusing layout of the Well can sometimes make them hard to locate.

Starfield Tapping Puzzle

The first box is easy enough to find.Head over to UC Surplusand check the wall to the right of the door. Open the panel, flip the switch, and then wait for Louisa to bring up the second panel.

To reach the second box, players will need to take the stairs by Jake’s, specifically the stairs next to the soccer net. Turn right at the top of the stairs, then pull the switch on the yellow box to open the red secure doors. The junction box is up another set of stairs and behind a folding door.

Starfield Tapping Trade

The third box is back down on the ground level. Head back to Jake’s and go down the alley where the bar has its main entrance. The panel is on the back wall.

How to Solve the Switch Puzzle

The last junction box of this sequence is a little special. To reach it, firsthead to the Trade Authority building. While looking at the sign, turn left and look for a set of stairs. Follow the path up and around to a heavy metal door and open it. The panel is behind another folding door, but the only way to open it is to solve a switch puzzle.

The goal of the puzzle is to turn all four lights green. Each switch turns on two lights, but if two switches activate the same light it turns off again. The solution is in the image: players should turn off the first, second, and fourth switches to turn the lights green and open the door.

Players must now report back to Louisa, who has moved. To reach her, head back to the Med Bay and walk towards the freight elevatorthat leads to the surface. On the left is a heavy metal door. Open it, climb the stairs, and Louisa is there.

Alternating Currents

“Tapping the Grid” is now technically over, but another mission, “Alternating Currents,” begins immediately. To continue, wait for Louisa to reach the Trade Authority building and speak to her before heading in.

Sit back and listen as Louisa and Zoe Kaminski talk. Speak to Louisa when Kaminski heads to her office, then listen some more.Despite their shady reputation, it turns out the Trade Authority isn’t behind the power issues, and Kaminski is just as motivated as Louisa to find out who is.

Of course, this means flipping more power switches. To reach the first junction box, take the stairs marked “Upper Level” just north of Jake’s. Follow the path to the upper level, then walk around to the other side to find a box on the other side of a broken walkway.

Louisa and Kaminski will disagree about which junction box to visit next. Kaminski’s panel is 47B, which is back across the upper path in a room players have to pass through to reach the first box. Louisa’s panelis above Apex Electronics, which is next to the Trade Authority. Players can reach it quickly by climbing up the tank next to the store, then walking through the doorway to the west. The junction box, 45A, is on the right, behind another heavy metal door.

Players should note that this decision is more for flavor than for the plot. Turning off either junction box will move the mission forward and change nothing about its ending.

Who Should Players Side With?

The last junction box is back on the surface of New Atlantis, on the side of Athena Tower. Flip the switch, then take the elevator up to the hacker’s floor. The apartment is mostly empty aside from computer equipment, and players can learn what the hacker was up to by checking the computer terminal by the whiteboard. To continue, choose the option “Download Files.”

At this point, players have a decision to make, because both Kaminski and Louisa want to get the data first. However, this decision isn’t really important. Players will get the same 75 XP and the same level-adjusted amount of credits no matter who gets the data. Kaminski will continue to do business with the player even if she doesn’t get the data, and Louisa has no impact on the UC Vanguard quest line. The only difference is that some active companions may prefer one choice or the other.

Starfieldis available now on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
