Nintendo’sSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateis a culmination of the company’s history, featuring many heavy hitting franchises throughout its tenure in the gaming industry. This includes one of its longest-running and popular franchises,The Legend of Zelda, in various iterations.Super Smash Bros. Ultimatefeatures many iterations of theZeldafranchise, such as Link being represented in hisBreath of the Wildoutfit and moveset, Zelda herself being her incarnation fromA Link Between Worlds, or the big bad of the franchise Ganondorf in his iconicOcarina of Timeoutfit.

WhileSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatedoes feature all previously playable characters from the franchise, a newZeldacharacter hasn’t been added to the roster sinceSuper Smash Bros. Brawlwith Toon Link. If fans discount that version of Link, then the lastZeldacharacter added to the game would be Princess Zelda and Ganondorf back inSuper Smash Bros. Melee. Considering this, it’s no surprise then thatSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatehas seen plenty of mods to add variousZeldacharacters. One of these fanmade mods adds in a fan-favoritecharacter fromThe Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

This mod was created by Smash Alternate on GameBanana, which gives Toon Link a skin that turns him into the spunky Pirate Captain Tetra. Tetra is ahighly requested character from theZeldaseriesto join the roster ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, whether it be based on her royal persona as Zelda or her pirate captain appearance. This mod in particular uses the model of Tetra’s appearance inHyrule Warriors, with various items that also give her various pirate themed items to replace Toon Link’s.

This includes replacing Toon Link’s Master Sword with a pirate’s cutlass, the boomerang with a Pirate Ship’s steering wheel, and even the hookshot has been modified to utilize an anchor instead. Other aesthetic changes include all of Toon Link’s voice clips being replaced with Tetra’s clips fromHyrule Warriorsor attack effects that would be fitting for Tetra’s character. The mod has been even put in the same costume slot as the one that Tetra’s spirit uses inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Spirit Mode, which is demonstrated in the video that accompanied the mod.

The overall reception to this alternateSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateskin has been positive, with many appreciating all the little details that would make Tetra a playable character in the game, and not just a simple model swap.
