Terrariais one of those games that provides players with a nearly inexhaustible arsenal of tools and weapons to fight enemies and traverse the environment – the Rod of Discord is good for both. Its versatility has made it especially popular among players seeking to gain an extra edge againstTerrariabosses such as Moon Lordthat require precise dodging. However, obtaining a Rod of Discord is easier said than done.
As one of therarest items inTerraria, getting one’s hands on a Rod of Discord requires a lot of patience and farming, especially if the player’s luck is sorely lacking. At a miserable 0.2% drop rate from Chaos Elementals (0.25% in Expert Mode), it’s become somewhat infamous inTerraria’s community. However, properly setting up a farming area and knowing where to look helps matters significantly.

What It Does
The Rod of Discord is popular for a good reason. It allows the player to teleport to the mouse cursor’s location at absolutely no cost to their mana. Not only does this make it easier to go through especiallydangerousTerrariabiomessuch as the Dungeon or the Underground Jungle, but it allows careful maneuvering against most types of boss mechanics in the game.
Using the Rod of Discord does not cancel the stealth buff provided by the Shroomite Armor, and it cancels any impending fall damage during a free-fall. While the item has no cooldown on its teleportation ability, it does provide a 9-second debuff that causes the player to lose a seventh of their total health if used before it expires. Unfortunately, using the Rod of Discord on the Jungle Temple will not work. Players still need to go through regular boss progression in hardmode, and only when they defeat Plantera in the Underground Jungle will they be allowed to teleport past the Jungle Temple Door.
Where To Farm It
To obtain a Rod of Discord, the players must firstenter Hardmode inTerraria. The reason why defeating the Wall of Flesh is a prerequisite is simple: Chaos Elementals only spawn in the Underground Hallow. Specifically, they spawn within 20 tiles of the player on any available Pearlstone, Pearlsand, or Pink Ice Block, and are easily recognized by their distinctive pink glow. This means that – in theory – players can set up a spawn arena, and snipe the Chaos Elementals as they spawn from a safe distance or enclosure.
An unorthodox way to farm the Rod of Discord is to use one of thesecretTerrariaworld seeds, namely Celebrationmk10. This increases the drop rate from 0.2% to 1%, making the process a lot easier should players get frustrated killing their 900th Chaos Elemental without seeing a single Rod of Discord drop.
TheTerraria"Labor of Love" update allows players to upgrade their Rod of Discord after defeating the Moon Lord into a Rod of Harmony. To do so, they need to drop the item into a pool of Shimmer, and this improved version allows them to teleport without inflicting the debuff.
