After long last, Nintendo finally confirmed that Brewster is coming toAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsin a future update with a tiny clip: the player walks into Blathers' Museum and heads to the top floor where there’s now a glowing sign featuring a familiar pigeon and a cup of coffee. After heading inside, players get a quick glimpse at the inside of the coffee shop as Nintendo announces there will beanAnimal CrossingDirect next month.

All of this is great news for fans still interested inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. After several months of begging and pleading that Nintendo add the fan-favorite bird and his decadent coffee to the game, fans' expectations will finally be met. And not only did Nintendo confirm this news after rumors surfaced online, but the fact that the full announcement of Brewster’s arrival will come with anAnimal CrossingDirect could spell for a bright future on the horizons.

Brewster’s Addition Likely Won’t Be the Last

It’d be a bit odd to have a whole dedicatedAnimal CrossingDirect livestream showcase that would only include the one announcement: when Brewster will finally get added to the titular first-party title. It may not be a good example to look at other themed directs likePokemon, which is one of the Japanese developer’s biggest flagship franchises. Still, it’s interesting thatAnimal Crossing, a small but substantial series that has been around since theNintendo 64 eraand has even has a lucrative mobile spinoff, will get a named Nintendo Direct as soon as next month.

So far, only Brewster has been a confirmed announcement for the upcoming Direct thanks to the short teaser. There’s still a lot more to showcase: how will Brewster arrive at the island? Will it be in a manner similar to Blathers? How can players get the extension of his cafe added to the Museum? Will they need to build it, or will it happen automatically with the update? What kinds of quests and activities will come along withBrewster’s cafe, The Roost? And, possibly most importantly, will this update be free or paid?

There are still lots of mysteries surrounding the comingAnimal Crossingupdate. However, it’s difficult to imagine how this announcement alone could take up the length of an entire full-sizedNintendo Direct, or even a Mini Direct. Though it wasn’t marketed as such, the possibility for either is still up in the air.

But whatBrewster’s addition and thisAnimal CrossingDirectlikely make way for are more content updates. Aside from the many adored NPCs that have appeared through theAnimal Crossingfranchise, fans have been highly requesting quality of life updates such as bulk crafting and more custom design slots, as well as new furniture sets. Players got a taste of new furniture with the Sanrio amiibo cards but taking a page from the mobile spinoffPocket Camp, there’s plenty of demand for more variety and new craftables. TheAnimal CrossingDirect could be Nintendo’s opportunity to finally announce DLC forNew Horizons.

Something that fans should be wary of moving forward is whether or not the Brewster update lands behind a paywall, and that goes for any future content as well. This is a very real possibility asAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfans have been demanding new contentfor several months now. Many of them would be willing to pay for new content, especially in the form of large DLC packs, and it’s highly likely Nintendo would take advantage of this for profit. Players should anticipate this ahead of theAnimal CrossingDirect airing in October.
