Baldur’s Gate 3earned universal acclaim in 2023 and beyond for plenty of reasons. Its stellar writing accounted for just about every decision players could make while exploring the open-world environment. Dialogue changes depending on how characters feel about the player, reacting to different decisions and events in a believable fashion.

There are plenty of dialogue options that players will miss on their first, second, and third playthroughs. Some are exclusive to different classes, while others are unique to Origin playthroughs or specific actions. Here are a few dialogues that are worth reloading a save or starting a whole new run for.

6Shadowheart vs Selûnite Tav

Sharrans Do Not Endorse Religious Tolerance, It Seems

Shadowheart is the poster child for religious indoctrination. She was raised in Shar’s underground cult, desperately clinging to theLady of Loss’sphilosophies in the hopes of being rewarded with love and acceptance. She also doesn’t take too kindly to anyone questioning or challenging her brutal faith.

Well, that’sexactlywhat the player can do if they’re playing as a Selûnite cleric. Several conversations with Shadowheart provide dialogue options where the player can directly compare her Sharran beliefs with their own. It goes about as well as one might expect, but it serves to highlight how scared Shadowheart is to let go of the only beliefs she’s ever known.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Raphael Choice

5Raphael’s Dirty Little Secret

Make The Devil Lose His Cool

ThroughoutBaldur’s Gate 3, players will encounterRaphael, a powerful devil looking to strike up a bargain. He’s got something the party desperately needs, but his price is steep. Instead of signing his infernal contract, players can opt to simply steal the artifact from his House of Hope. During this heist, they can meet his incubus Haarlep, who will offer information in exchange for a little “favor” of sorts.

If the player takes Haarlep up on their offer, they can get the incubus to spill some major tea about Raphael. The player can then use that information to insult Raphael to his face. The usually smooth-talking devil erupts with anger and humiliation, a satisfying moment before the inevitable, grueling boss fight.

Sussur Bark tree in Baldur’s Gate 3

4Spellcaster, Meet Sussur Tree

A Majorly Unpleasant Magical Vacuum

A good portion of Act 1 is spent inthe Underdark, the Sword Coast’s cavernous underbelly. One side quest involves collecting bark from the mysterious sussur tree, a mysterious plant known for its anti-magical properties.

If the player character is a spellcaster of any kind, approaching the sussur tree triggers a unique dialogue tree as they temporarily lose their powers. There are a variety of options to try (and fail) to reconnect with their arcane abilities, while the different companions voice their concerns. The players can then either try to explain their predicament to their melee class party members or commiserate with their fellow spellcasters.

3Wizard, Meet Sorcerer

No Need For Magic-Splaining Here, Gale

Wizards and sorcerers have always had a contentious relationship inDungeons & Dragons. Each class acquires their arcane abilities their own way, with wizards relying on book smarts while sorcerers were simply born with them. Playing as a sorcerer gives players plenty of dialogue options that highlight their massive confidence in their magic.

However, it’s withGalewhere sorcerers really shine. This dweeb of a wizard banks all his self-worth on his magical prowess to the point of being a bit of a know-it-all. Thankfully, he has the player to bring his ego down to more agreeable levels. The best example is when they interject in his magic lesson to remind him that, as a spellcaster themselves, channeling the Weave is nothing new to them.

Astarion’s scars on his back during The Pale Elf

2Tiefling Translations

Language Barriers Can Be Downright Infernal

As players get to know their vampire friend,Astarion, they might discover him inspecting the strange scars adorning his back. The poor guy is unable to see what they look like and asks the player for some help. In most cases, the player ends up drawing the design in the dirt for him to take a look at.

However, if the player happens to be a Tiefling, they will instead immediately recognize the scars as being written in Infernal, the language of the Hells. New dialogue options appear as the player offers to translate the incomplete text, giving Astarion more clues to solve this mystery. It turns out his scars are part of an infernal contract, but what it’sforis a mystery for another day.

1Paladins Judging Arabella

Judge, Jury, And (Maybe) Executioner?

Stealing is wrong, sure. But threatening to execute a child via venomous snake bite for theft is evenmorewrong. At least, that’s how most gamers feel when confronted with Kahga holding Arabella hostage for stealing the druid idol. Players can either be bystanders to this horrible display or attempt to persuade Kahga to eithershow mercy or carry out her sentence.

This persuasion attempt goes a lot smoother if the player is a paladin, the class best known for temperance and judgment. Kahga and the others present will acquiesce to the player’s expert opinion on this ethical dilemma, allowing them to decide the child’s fate. Whether the player decides to abuse that power is up to them.
