After moving the release date three times in two years, 20th Century Fox Animation finally released the trailer forBob’s Burgers: The Movielast night. A big-screen adaptation of the hit Fox Animation TV series, the movie will feature all 2-D hand-drawn animation.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for the movie since it first began development in 2017. Disney’s acquisition of Fox and their animation studios sidelined most of their in-development projects, but once the deal was settled production resumed on Bob’s Burgers: The Movie. Then the pandemic forciblypostponed its original summer 2020 release. Rescheduled for April 2021, it then disappeared from Disney’s release calendar untila September 2021 announcementsetBob’s Burgers: The Moviefor Memorial Day 2022 (May 27). The show’s creator,Loren Bouchard, said in a June 2021 interviewthat the release delays were due to theater closings and low box office sales– and that once audiences had safely returned to movie theaters,Bob’s Burgers: The Moviewould be there.

20th Century Studios also teased plot details of the movie. As promised from the beginning,Bob’s Burgers: The Moviewill bea musical comedy featuring all-new songsfrom the show’s creative team. But the story will also see Bob and Linda attempt to make the best of a disaster impacting their business and the kids up to their usual antics as they try to solve a mystery that could save the restaurant. Here’s the synopsis from Fox: “The story begins when a ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front of Bob’s Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining the Belchers’ plans for a successful summer. While Bob and Linda struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family’s restaurant. As the dangers mount, these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back behind the counter, where they belong.”

The original TVcast is all set to reprise their rolesin the Belcher family: H. Jon Benjamin as Bob Belcher, John Roberts as Linda Belcher, Kristen Schaal as Louise Belcher, Dan Mintz as Tina Belcher, and Eugene Mirman as Gene Belcher. Larry Murphy will also return as Teddy, the Belchers' handyman and regular customer. Favorite supporting characters like the Fishoeder brothers, Sergeant Bosco and Courtney Wheeler are also credited with their original voice actors. H. Jon Benjamin will also voice Jimmy Pesto, Jr., Tina’s longtime crush. No word on whether or not Jimmy Pesto, Sr., Bob’s rival restaurateur, will return, however. The show terminated their relationship with the character’s original voice actor, Jay Johnston, after footage surfaced of Johnston participating in the January 6th, 2021 Capitol riots.

Due to the Fox-Disney merger,Bob’s Burgers: The Movieis technically a Disney property and will be their first hand-drawn feature animation to release in theaters since 2011’sWinnie the Pooh. It is also only the second Fox Animation series to be adapted for the big screen, afterThe Simpson’s Moviein 2007.

Bob’s Burgers: The Moviewill premiere in theaters on July 07, 2025.
